Patch seems unable to find the already installed game and simply terminates giving the user no opportunity to locate the right path. So, it's completely useless.

Thanks to a direct link that was provided to the widescreen modded file, I've since been able to play the game – which works fine, both Tutorial and the Good/Evil Campaigns. That was great for me, as the old CD version wouldn't let me install it at all but just kept trying to remove a previous installation. Anyway, I don't know why they don't update the link on that site. It's not the best LOR game out there, but it still has its merits and is quite fun to play.

Awesome work, as always. By the way, rather than running the default windowed mode that's far too small to be practical, you can run this in full widescreen (e.g., 1920x1080) within the DXWnd wrapper utility and it will behave like a borderless window; thereby not messing up your other screen on a multi-monitor setup, which is neat.

Unfortunately, the torrent is completely dead they don't respond to e-mails. Pity someone couldn't post it here instead!

After copying the setup file to the location on the desktop and then running the install, once the serial number has been entered it says it can't read from the Game1 cabinet file on the disc, so getting this fix to actually work is a complete mystery to me.

Initially thought it didn't work, but it kicks in once you adjust the resolution to the highest setting (1024x768). Looks great! Thanks.

Thanks a lot for the terrific bundle! I already had FoH, Sparta and Golden Horde, but the other two were unfamiliar to me. Looking forward to seeing what improvements you made in the mod. BTW, I had to tweak the auto-generated profile again to get the 1920x1080 widescreen to take effect but now it looks/runs great.

The game is available on The ISO Zone (http://www.theisozone.com/downloads/pc/windows-games/alexander-iso/) but installing it can be problematic. For some reason it stalls out after loading he second CD image. I had to merge both files into a new folder and run it from there in order to get it to work. As for the game itself, both the campaign and skirmish mode are a lot of fun. Also it looks great, at least if you're a fan of GSC's other work or 'isometric' RTS games like Cossacks or AOE.

Initially had the problem of units not showing up, but setting compatibility to XP and running as admin fixed things. Now it works perfectly. Makes a big improvement to enjoyment of the game.

MartinRayner - - 29 comments @ Tzar - Burden of the Crown HD Patch (1920x1080)

With all due respect, this mod isn’t really functional as it positions the game in the right hand side of the monitor but leaves about half of the screen an empty black void (except for part of the HUD that’s stranded on the far left hand side). What would be really useful is some way of simply forcing the program to play in a window!

Doesn't seem to work, unfortunately. At least not on my computer. After changing the resolution to 1920X1080 it turned almost everything on the screen black. Moving the mouse around would make certain areas where it has passed over visible, but it was entirely unplayable. Had to completely uninstall the program and re-install it to make it functional again. I really hope you can fix the problems with this patch so the program can be enjoyed at higher resolutions. By the way, this was on the GOG version of the game, Win7 x64 w/ a crappy Nvidia 8400GS card.

Wow, thanks a lot for this! Works perfectly (albeit within the bounds of KKND2's somewhat rigid graphical limitations) and gives this fabulous old game a whole new lease on life.

After unzipping, just copy the KWIPv3.exe file into the directory where KKND2 is installed and then use this file to run the game.

Hadn't played much of the game up to now because it required me to shut everything else down owing to the limited resolution. With this fix it now runs perfectly in 1920x1080 and I can also be streaming on my other monitor. Thank you very much!

I was really hoping this patch might address the limit in resolution. Unfortunately, it doesn't. Such a shame as otherwise it's a very good game.

Great mod. Not sure why there are all these hopelessly befuddled comments as the installation was super-easy and entirely straightforward (a refreshing change when it comes to mods, it has to be said).

Good stuff! I'm getting a new computer next week, so I'll try installing the latest version of the Mod on that one. In the meantime, I followed your advice about unticking the last two options in the Preferences and it seemed to do the trick. It's working fine now and looks great!

Yeah, I'm already familiar with those "solutions" but they don't work. There is no KoH.in2 file that I was able to locate on my computer and the properties fix recommended doesn't seem to exist on Windows XP.

Just wanted to let you know that I finally got the mod working properly. However, it should be noted that the default directory path causes problems because it leads one to incorrectly install the mod in a subdirectory of the program (and then the updater can't locate the executable). Having solved that issue, it's also worth noting that if you already have the program patched up to 1.5, the installation routine generates unhanded exception error messages. Regarding the HD part of it, I still initially encountered the same problem with with the display being stuck at 1024X768 and the skewed off center and wasn't able to fix it as suggested by modifying the KoH.in2 file as it doesn't exist (at least not for me). I only seemed to manage to correct the problem after having tried configuring my dual monitor setup as one large horizontal screen and after the program not finding any acceptable display mode, then reverting back to normal and relaunching did it finally run properly. So that was all fun. ;)

My only tiny little gripe now is that it displays at 1920x1080 but in a window and I've got no way of changing it to fullscreen. But as I said, that's a minor issue. I'm looking forward to now actually playing the mod this weekend.

Nice job. Looks great and seems to works without a hitch(at least so far). As for the cursors, I simply copied them into this subfolder: RetailExe\1.9\data\cursors. For anyone a bit puzzled about how to properly install the mod, I'd recommend this YouTube video, which provides a clear explanation of the process: Youtube.com. Especially helpful in showing how to get the launcher you need to come up by modifying the shortcut.

I found that it crashed the program as soon as a game was launched for some reason. When checking to see if there were any corrupted files or whatever by clicking on the "About" button, it simply sent me to the website where I was informed there were no more current updates. Not sure what the problem is as I'm just running Win XP. Pity as I was digging the way the launcher appeared (not to mention the cool update to the audio track) and was looking forward to using this as the base for some interesting mods.

Just stumbled by accident over this mod via a YouTube gameplay video of it. As a fan of both franchises, it's terrific to see them brought together like this and a lot of fun to play. Great work by the Zanmgt team!
