I will try to make the mod 100 % custom as far as it is possible, and that will include monsters, so yea :]
I will try to make the mod 100 % custom as far as it is possible, and that will include monsters, so yea :]
My goal is to release it this year. If it will be possible will depend on how much time college will steal.
Thank you!
The abandoned factory area is naturally a quite creepy area with a cold and unique atmosphere. I have put a lot of dedication to preserve the real atmosphere and architecture that exists with a few adjustments to make it fit better in a horror game. Moving into the haunted house and saunter around in the factory has been an important part during the development of the mod.
Whilst there, I take a note of what is naturally scary and analyze how the area could optimally be used in a game.
I also have had the same thoughts as you several times when I have been driving by abandoned areas. Now I have taken the step and actually applied my thoughts for once.
I do not think that the trackers finds cuboids of concrete that interesting to look at. I have almost created the whole structure for the outdoor factorial environment, but the issue is that I still not have added any textures - it is like a detailed environment that is gray.
If you still want to see the progress, I can send you a lot of screenshots for sure, but the first uploads here will be seen when some textures are added :)
Yea, I know. I have been really busy with college for about 2 months, never had that much to study before. Now I'm back on track with the mod, so I will try to put up some nice updates now when I have a lot of spare time :)
Probably some time after I have finished "Milestone 2" I think :].
Now I have just added walls, ceilings, floors, platforms, stairs, beams, pillars and construction elements which I do not think is that exciting to see.
That sounds really cool, it would be really interesting to follow that project!
One recommendation from my side would be to focus a lot on sounds and build up a nice atmosphere, sounds is definitely one of the most important elements in a horror game or movie. Jump-scares is an other element that can be really effective if they are used wisely, but in many cases they are overused or being used wrong, so do always consider whether you should use them in a specific situation or not.
Yea, that would probably be possible to some sort of a level - it depends on if you want it to be exactly alike the movie, or just use the basic grudge idea - "When someone dies in the grip of a powerful rage... a curse is born. The curse gathers in that place of death. Those who encounter it will be consumed by its fury." If we chose the first alternative, the hard task would be to convert the story and cut-scenes in the movie to something playable that you can interact with. The second one, however, would give you a lot of possibilities and would be much easier to work with.
I'm glad that you did share your thoughts!
There is a lot of things that I would had done differently today if it was possible to make some changes. I can admit that I did not think out or plan things in details, which is why we have a really varying output with some good and bad things.
Neither am I content with the monster encounters nor the ending in this mod, but the ending had its meaning since it was meant as a continuation to the next story that I am making.
Now I'm not sure if I will make the new story as a continuation story since I think the story could be much better without Disponentia as a luggage. That would however make Disponentia's ending totally pointless, so it is not an easy decision.
If you have more thoughts, I would love to start a discussion via PM :)
The geometry will be fixed pretty easily, but the textures will be a hard task, that will be complex.
They will start to pop-up when I have something nice to show. As it is now, I have only built the structure for some maps (walls, ceiling, floor, basic platforms etc), it is not that cool to look at. :]
Yea, I am going to use all the factory buildings in the story, but I will modify them a bit so it fits better for gameplay.
I have no idea what that is, I have not seen it till' you pointed it out :o
Really? How come that you have been there, do you live nearby?
Last time, I was there with a friend during the night. We got creeped out too and left the area straight away. We heard some really strange metal bang sounds several times just some feet away from us.
I think I have found the sound source now. There are a lot of metal barrels around the factory area. When it is getting cold during the night, they can change their shapes and get smaller, which emits really creepy sounds. If I would not know that, I would never chill around there alone during nighttime.
I will go visiting the factory during this weekend. It is a few hour trip, so I can't go there that often. Next time will probably be during late autumn or winter.
Yea, lets hope that they will release a patch with some of the new game features that AMFP has, it would be really cool :)
The mod can't break your game unless you have installed it in the wrong way. I would recommend you to clean up your Amnesia folder either manually or by re-installing the game.
The mod should be installed by copying the whole mod-folder into the root-folder of Amnesia (not copying all content inside the mod-folder separately into the root folder of Amnesia).
Thanks! I am working on a new, much bigger mod, based on a real factory a stones-throw away from the mansion. The mod-name is East Factory, the mod-page will soon be available after authorisation at: Moddb.com
True, but it is still possible to make full conversion custom stories by temporary replacement of config-files.
I was going to make a fully isolated custom story for AMFP - not a regular custom story. It is actually possible to make one, I have already tried it with success.
You will just have to do a temporary replacement of the original config files of the game while loading the mod - which can be achieved pretty easily with a batch file.
I have already programmed a good setup for that, but I changed my mind when I realized that I could not get access to neither the inventory nor the sanity-system in AMFP. There is a lot of other nice features with AMFP, but I would rather make my mod in TDD with inventory and sanity.
I do not care that much about the assets from AMFP since I will create most of the assets by my self. It was just the new features that I wanted.
It really sucks that I have been delaying this mod and been waiting more than a year for AMFP when it turned out that TDD became the best option- I thought it would be the opposite.
Anyways, I have been planning a lot during this year, so the process will probably be fast enough to win back some of the time that has been lost.
There are no custom monsters, but there are modified ones
I am really glad to hear that it now runs smooth for the majority of the players! I did a pretty big beginner's mistake (forgot to use POW2-size on textures)
You could elaborate your issue by sending me a PM with information of things that is happeninng.
1. Make sure you have installed it correctly by checking that the the dir location is correct
2. If you are getting any error messages, please send a file named hpl.log (usually)located in C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\Amnesia\Main
:]
Theoretically, it would be possible if I removed some custom features that not is compatible with a custom story. The only issue is that it would be a lot of work, I would rather spend that time on the next story that will be much better.
If you have had issues with installing the mod, I would gladly help you, it should not be much harder than installing a custom story. You could just send me a PM if that is the case. :]
Hammering nails with your bare hands would not be that realistic, that is why you will need a hammer, otherwise, you will not make any progress :]
