I agree it would certainly effect balance. But I personally feel like it moving more slowly would make it all more tactical and immersive. It taking longer (and the extra space to move in) to engage enemy ships in a gravity well opens up a lot more strategic movement options, and would make micro fleet management a lot more valuable.
But range scaling for planetary defences would definitely need adapting. Or maybe even a planetary upgrade could be added "Orbital canons" where they bombard any enemy ships from groundside that are bombing the planet.
Just spitballing some thoughts. Love your mod and whatever changes you make I'm sure I'll love it. :)
