MII:TW Has been officially announced! I have suggested that development be moved to it for this mod. We are yet to decide for sure, but I'll keep you posted regardless!

General Announcement

The mod now starts in the year 1453, the year Constantinople fell to the Turks. Therefore some faction names will change. The Romans will be the Italians. The Sassanids will be the Turks. There will be an Arab faction in Arabia, North Africa and parts of Spain. The Hellenistic States will be either changed or removed. We will still have the Spanish, the Germans, the French and the English (not the British).

The Mesoamerican States will become the Aztecs. The Inca will remain. The North American tribes, which were never really accurate anyway, will also be changed.

Japan and China will remain, and will use these names. The Champa Empire will be the Cambogee or the Angkor, I will research this further. The Indians will be the Moghuls.

That's all for now. The mod has now well and truly changed, but I think for the better. We will strive to make a working demo, containing historical battles between the Spanish and various native Americans, as well as between some other factions to illustrate scope.

We will need new faction icons, new histories and descriptions (which I will do).

Thank you.

PS - The reasons for these sweeping changes have a lot to do with my total lack of knowledge of Rome and it's engine. I take full blame for any time people have wasted in working on this mod up to now, but I hope that we will be able to offer an interesting and unique mod to the community.

What started as a mod showing the whole world from 500BCE to 2500CE has become a modification depicting the whole world from 1453 to 1900, still a vast undertaking.

Here it comes, what you've all been expecting... we need modellers, scripters, researchers (with some idea of academic rigour please!) and basically anyone else who is willing to help us. From the start interest has been woefully low, many have said that the mod is impossible, and now I finally, after a year of sporadic and ineffectual work, see that the doubters were right.

Thanks.

Vikings (or at least viking units) are a very good idea, and one which has been considered. They are sitll a possibilty.

That has been attempted before, but it has been discovered that real-time sea battles are impossible.

Navies will appear (and battleships after the Industrial Age) as they do in Rome.

MaximoDecimoMeridio - Battleships will appear, but not in real-time battles, simply because the engine doesn't support sea battles.

The Spanish will be quite weak to start with, but by the Middle Ages and the Renaissance they will be a match for anyone in Europe.

"OB will require a good processor, roughly 10 gigs of hd space, a 128 meg graphics card, and about 512 megs of ram. It will not require a supercomputer, as mine will run it on mid level settings and it will look just fine"

How do you know? It's not out yet and no system specs have been released! This is the closest we've got to system specifications:

"What are the PC system requirements?
We don't know at this time, but it will certainly look the best on the latest hardware available when the game is released."

It looks considerably better than HL2 graphically, and considering its made for a next-gen console its likely to require more than a year-old PC game.

Every time I see the progress on this mod I am astounded! Those models are all wonderful, as are the skins. How much progress has been made on the campaign? Or will MP be the focus? Also, will there be historical batttles like Austerlitz and Waterloo? Well, as I say, great work! You've captured the splendour of the period!

Death1942 - Our mod (the Age of Mankind: Total War goes from 400CE to around the present day, including WWI and WWII and includes the whole world map.

Every faction, by the first release, will have gunpowder weapons, even those which did not historically. Certain factions (the Chinese Kingdoms for example) will have gunpowder technology sooner than the Europeans. Also, the cost of developing gunpowder units will vary between the factions: it will be extremely expensive for the American factions for example, and quite cheap for the Cupta, Chinese, Sassanids and Japanese.

There will also be tanks etc. in the appropriate time frame, though it will take a long time to get up to the point where you can build 'em, besides, they'll only be in the second last release.

The map may be larger in the end, and will have more regions, perhaps up to 200 if the game allows.

I reckon this mod, much like Rome: Total Realism for R:TW, improves the game exponentially with each new version. This is what BF1942 should have been!

That said, some of the sound mixing is a little odd: certain rifles' firing sound is quiter than their reloading/cocking sound.

Apart from that, its almost perfect though! Great models, great maps, great variety!

Skabenga - well the "whole modding thing" is a little more complicated than can be explained here - try the totalwar.org forums for some tutorials.

The African tribes will not be in the mod. Sorry, but that's just the way it is.

The web site has been updated with a progress report section which contains the units planned for the factions. Check it out!

shogun_01 - I'm not really sure where the other factions went. We had twenty-one to start with... maybe I've left some off :)!

At present I'm leaning towards the upgrades working in a similar way to the Marian reforms: when you enter a new age an upgrade will become abvailable for your buildings - and therefore your units.

However, a new building may be required to enter the next age... I'll decide which based on feedback.

TAOM - We are making considerable progress. Nothing near as good as CotA (mainly because we need a modeller!)

Its great to see a mod like this for an FPS! I'm working on one for Rome: Total War called Age of Mankind: Total War ( Forums.totalwar.org ) and I wish you luck for your mod!
