My interest in game design didn’t arise until I escaped the (at the time) vastly limited macintosh gaming scene, built myself a PC and obtained a copy of Jedi Outcast. Soon after watching Attack of the Clones in theaters, I decided to download GTK radiant, a map editor designed for games running on the Quake 3 Arena engine. Two years later and with several maps under my belt, I one day stumbled across a Movie Battles 2 server. For the next two years I was a member of the movie battles 2 community, and made the second community made map ever. I finally “retired” from active movie battles 2 mapping in June 2006 with six objective based maps and a brief leadership role in the mod’s community map pack, to help start my current project, Star Wars the New Era. Outside of my game design work, I am a college student working toward transferring to the only University in the California system to offer a complete video game design major. I also have my own computer consulting business.

As someone on the forum was asking a few questions about the current state of things I figured I might as well mirror my reply here as well as on the mod db profile:
I currently plan to have the summer off and we have two coders in addition to myself working on the two features we really need to do. I would say we could get it done by fall (allow me to fully explain this more though in a second) which would leave just retooling some maps to support the Objective gametype. As far as what we have left to do:

Redo the HUD (porting the current one has been difficult so we might do a new one in a more simple layout thats not dependent on screen resolution as much.

Create an objective entity that mappers can use in their maps to signal the end of a round/assign a winning team

Create a proper round timer that restarts the round and works with the objective entity(s) Class work wise its been very easy to make them, I'm figuring the classes we'll have at release will be:
Scout: basic blaster and pistol
Soldier: Repeater blaster and pistol
Heavy: rocket launcher and pistol
Sniper: Sniper rifle and pistol
We have some special models like a SBD and Arc trooper we could use for a "special" class for each civ like how Battlefront handled it but the rebel/empire currently have no such models ready to get ingame (I would envision a Darktrooper and Wookiee), therefore the fifth class would wait until another release.

We're still rewriting code in the mod, luckily we have two coders working on getting the gameplay and visual parts in working order. Don't worry I'm far from even considering throwing the towel in on this, we've come too far to stop now :P

in a bit of a hibernation atm since I'm the only coder working actively on it but its nearing a point where I have enough of the code completed to bring the rest of the team out of their other projects to continue work.

Hmm, some of those maps look like they were decompiled (no lighting, badly aligned textures), I recognize the deathstar map as that of Eike Legion who made the imperial outpost series. I really hope this mod isn't another KOTF wannabe where most of the work was "borrowed" from other people without permission. Wector has gathered great respect from the JA community for being one of the few people to not do this and succeed. I hope you don't tarnish that reputation.

hey what can I say? When you have a team made up of people working and getting their education who do this on their free time, not to mention that we're making all our own assets, and have very few coders, its going to take some time.

We're release when we are able, and while we're getting closer, we still have things to finish :p

I apologize for the delay in news updates, the school semester just started and alot of us are (again) getting used to dealing with the workload and working on the mod. We have converted to the Orange box engine and currently are fixing up bugs that have popped up because of it. I promise to try to get some stuff together for an update soon.

We did do some shooting for a trailer before Fedcon, however our team member in charge of the trailer has been missing for a while now, otherwise you would have had a good trailer to tide you over, though hopefully he will reappear.

Its not trust me, only 3 SP missions and they are so poorly done. A real modder would have made several full SP stories and whatnot over 5 years <_<

This mod contains alot of work that the original authors did not give permission to, so I would say no, this mod should not have a place on Mod DB, least until tim can show absolute proof that he has the ok from each and every author of work thats been used.

lightsabers will most likely be in a different mode but nothing is completely set in stone yet, however they will not be in the first release due to the complexity of such a system.

not according to the fellow I chatted with on a tour there last week, according to him mods like this are allowed as long as don't try to turn a profit from it in anyway. A look at the many other star wars mods around here that are still running shows that LA isn't much into the shutting down of fan projects anymore.
