Soviet rifle designed in 1970s as an answer to US M16 and so-called "small caliber, high velocity" intermediate round concept. Since it's adoption AK-74 was proven to be a reliable gun, just like it's legendary predecessors: AKM and AK. In 1990s AK-74 served as a basis for next generation of Russian small arms, which is still in service in many countries of the world.
