Weird texture pack

Mod review

this is not a mod, it is just a texture pack. if one is going to release a texture pack, it does not belong in the mods section. not that there is even a download link to even get this texture pack in the first place.

Half-Life : The Alpha Unit

Mod review

I got a bit of enjoyment out of this mod, but it also leaves a bad taste in my mouth. first of all, the enemy spawns are just abysmal. seems like there's enemy spawns almost every 10 seconds ala Half-Life: Blue Shift. the enemies can spawn in front of you, or both in front of you and behind you. you'll more often than not find yourself losing too much health and armor to survive the next barrage of enemies. your ammo also quickly runs out because their favorite enemies to spawn are the Shock Troopers and Pit Drones, which can have you wasting a lot of your ammo due to the high spread of the MP5 and SPAS-12, and you won't want to end up without .357 Magnum ammo for your Desert Eagle. I guess a benefit is having the Shockroach, which you will have a hard time missing out on considering almost every regular enemy is a Shock Trooper. my next point is that the level design seems bland and uninspired at times while seeming great at others. the biggest gripe I've got with level design is that the loadzone placements are very random, and enemies are placed behind each and every loadzone. this can lead to you accidentally loading the previous level because you weren't ready for your face to be blasted off by a troop of Alien Grunts and Vortigaunts. the enemies will most likely disappear as the seamless transition you've come to expect from Half-Life is not present here. this can become frustrating as you've engaged in battle, and the enemies now know where you are as soon as you load into the next level. what you're supposed to do is usually easy enough to figure out, but it'd be nice if you could just press one button without having 50 enemies spawn in your face the second you do whatever it is you need to do. all in all, only pick up this mod if you're looking for a challenge. not much point in playing it otherwise.

Wanted! The Western Mod - STEAM

Mod review

if you've played Outlaws!, and you've played Half-Life, then this mod might be for you. it is quite an old mod that was ported to Steam with a single player campaign in 2006, and has received patches to make the port less broken and restore missing content from the original mod. a brilliant benchmark in modding, and just a wonderful mod in general with a story that isn't dumped on you in one place, but drops subtle hints until the bomb is dropped at the end. the weapons are authentic to those you'd find in 1876, and the level design gives you a bit to explore. definitely one of my favorite Half-Life mods ever made.

Day of Defeat: Source

Game review

in terms of aesthetics and gameplay, it beats any Call of Duty game I've ever seen. for 2005, this game is a rare gem. sure, it has its fair share of issues like not many custom maps worth playing or the limited game modes, but the bugs aren't heavy, and it has such enjoyable and memorable design. if there were more factions (British from pre-Valve DoD or maybe Soviets), some more maps (maps more than anything imo), it would definitely be quite a treat. in its current form though, it's something I'd definitely recommend.

Mod review

"mods" like this are the reason Moddb is so depraved. this is literally just a mishmash of a couple of different HD packs with a name slapped onto it. these garbage piles seemed to peak in 2018, but seriously, nobody wants these. I get it, making your own assets can be a challenge, but don't use others' assets instead. it only draws anger and frustration. btw, how did this get featured with a 1/10 review scale? the only things changed are the models and textures! like the ******* YouTube algorithm!

tl;dr: another mod featuring stolen assets and skins.

starting to lose track of how many Black Mesa skin packs are cluttering the Mod section. one carbon copy after another.

C.A.G.E.D. 2

Mod review

wont say what this mod is supposed to be, deletes comments and questions, and has no preview material. the mod itself is kinda garbage, and I don't remember this existing in 2001. this is considering the stolen skins from a few years back and the content from Half-Life 2: Goldsource.

Goodbye Gordon

Early access mod review

A good starting point would be the fact that this is a game made on Unity, not a Goldsource/Half-Life 1 mod. it also seems to be a copy paste of the original Goodbye Gordon, albeit the author of this "mod"'s page didn't bother to add a download. now, I found HL:VR but the AI is self aware to be pretty funny, community aside. this could have been slightly more laugh-worthy if the devs used jokes other than "Hello, Gordon!" and "You should've brought your passport, Gordon!", the two jokes being reused getting very annoying after a while.
