4) Copyright. Often, it's not just the main mod author whose considerations are a factor - this mod uses work from a number of different artists and writers. Do they not have a say in their own work? For example, future versions of Immersive Creatures will use voice actors provided by a management agency. Under terms of the contract with the agency, only the mod author can upload the mod to approved places. Any breach of this will get the lawyers for the agency involved.

5) Mod authors often spend thousands of hours making a mod. It's their right as author to decide where a mod is uploaded - as mod users, we should be grateful that they have decided to release a mod so we can also use it - we have no "rights" to use any mod, let alone upload it elsewhere - the rights are all with the person(s) that created the mod.
If a mod author wants to put ridiculous terms on the release of his mod, then that's still his right to do so. Or do we all live in a communist society now where we all own everything? In which case, give me your motor car, I want to use it. I'll try not to bash it up too much on the racetrack.

"Nobody has a monopoly on mods"? If a mod author decides to only allow one site to host a mod, then that's his right to do so.

There are many reasons that a mod author would want to maintain control over the publication of a mod, and these are just a few:

1) Updates and bugfixes. If a mod is updated for better performance, to add features, or fix bugs, then if someone else has already uploaded a version without permission, then that person may not update his mirrored version, and so the mod would not be updated elsewhere. This is not only bad for the modding communuity, but also leads to point 2 -

2) Support. People complain about mods. A lot. Mod authors generally do all they can to help their users. If you upload a mod but don't know anything about how it was made, how can you help the users? If you upload an old unsupported mod, then people will have issues and the mod author can't help them solve the issue if he doesn't know what version they're using!

3) If you upload a mod elsewhere, how do we know you've not changed the file - for the worse? For all we know you've added a virus into the upload!

dogtown1 is now back at the Nexus! The version of SkyMoMod available there however is a different version than the one on moddb - it's authorised but not supported by dogtown1, who is now being possibly over-careful that he doesn't break any more Nexus rules!

Using creatures from the Witcher and STALKER is fine, as those publishers have given blanket permission for modders to use their assets in other games. The main problem was the use of assets from the Borderlines and Arkham Asylum games.

Strictly lore-friendly (Purist) version of Skyrim Monster Mod v12 now available at Skyrim.nexusmods.com

Creature names, stats and sometimes spells are adjusted to match their appearances in previous Elder Scrolls games and to fit better into known lore. Those creatures with no precendence in lore have been removed.

Standard lore-friendly version of Skyrim Monster Mod v12 also still available at the same link - this version also adjusts creatures but uses a little creative license to leave creatures in if they feel as though they suit the world of Skyrim or Tamriel, and only removes the most lore-breaking creatures (such as the dinosaurs).

Lore-Friendly (standard) version of Skyrim Monster Mod v12 now available at skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/16411

I can't post a direct clickable link as I'm a new member here, but you can copy and paste the link into your browser. If someone else would like to post a hyperlink, that'd be great.

If you're an existing user of my replacers, hello and nice to see you here! You know the usual deal.

If you're new to the lore-friendly version, a big hello to you!
A quick explanation - Skyrim Monster Mod is a great mod, but some of the creatures are out of place according to Elder Scrolls lore. My series of replacers edit, rename or remove creatures to make them fit in better with the world of Skyrim and Tamriel, and to match better with appearances in previous Elder Scrolls games. Details can be found at the above link. So far I've only made the standard lore-friendly version for v12 - other replacers that remove different batches of creatures will follow in due course.
