Hitman: Blood Money

Game review

This game will always have a special place in my collection. Sure it's not the most polished game even during the time it was released. The AI is a bit crappy here and there, but what the game accomplishes outweighs its faults. I've seen dozens if not more different ways to complete any given level. The map design is excellent and open ended, intended for the player to figure on his own how to assassinate his target and get out alive. Granted, the game gets easy once you figure out the best possible manner to beat each level, but the replay value is still there. I highly recommend this game to anyone who likes replay value and being creative. Absolution is complete garbage compared to Blood Money. I would go for an HD version of this game any day. Here's to hoping the next sequel actually gets the damn series right.

M:I - New Dawn

Mod review

A decent mod, far better than half the crap that gets posted on here anyways. While the story is a convoluted mess of cliched action movie plot twists and full of the stereotypical "evil russian general" villains, the gameplay is solid.

The environments are well designed and tons of fun to shoot people in. They are varied, ranging from a hotel to a military base to a ship. Though the weapons are still your standard Max Payne 2 weapons only with different skins, you'll still have loads of fun. They managed to add in dual MP5ks with gun katas, but of course the gun kata mechanism is nowhere near as fluid as the Hall of Mirrors mod. I can't even pull off half the moves, so it's not even worth it. The set pieces the mod has are great, you really do get the sense you're in an action movie.

If there's one thing this mod got right for sure is the style. In the cutscenes, you'll get recreated parts of Mission Impossible 2 with some intense explosions combined with the music from MI2. I never thought just watching explosions could be so fun in this dated game engine.

By far one of the worst aspects of this mod is the voice acting. The actor of Ethan Hunt sounds like a whinny 16 year old. His villainous counterparts are bearable to listen to, however still sound forced. Anyone can do a bad Russian accent.... Even worse is the fact that this mod has some audio bugs, meaning even when you SKIP cut scenes, you STILL hear the stupid audio going on as you play for a couple of minutes. Kind of annoying seeing as though I was SKIPPING for a reason. Ethan's Aussie friend is also irritating as balls to listen to.

As said before, the story is just ***. Pure and simple. A 12 year old probably wrote it after seeing too many James Bond films. Nothing makes any sense and you aren't given much reason to GIVE a rat's *** about the utterly boring and one dimensional characters.

In conclusion, this mod is definitely worth playing. Just don't expect a gripping story or much substance.

Mod review

This mod is boring. Pure and simple. Good attempts at a decent story and voice acting is done well for the most part, everything else is lacking. Terrible modeling, all I see are rehashed hl2 models with a different skin color. This is especially apparent with the character models, who are all literally hl2 characters with green uniforms. The weapon modeling is horrid, looked as if they came from a hl 1 mod. Game play is just as bad.

Combat is terribly unbalanced, why the hell does it take 3 shots to the ******* HEAD with a pistol to kill ONE enemy? And half a magazine of a M4 to kill one guy? Does it make sense to make the melee weapon be a one hit kill weapon? While the weapons the player uses are terribly underpowered, the enemies on the other hand have OVERPOWERED weapons that seemingly kill the player within a few shots. In the mod's first gun fight, the AI spawn with at least 5 men shooting at the player with pistols while the player only has a small desk for cover. I was forced to use CHEATS to get past that part.

The atmosphere of the game is somewhat there, it attempts to present a Bioshock/Deadspace like theme to the mod, but falls flat with the crude presentation (the introduction was a spinning planet that looked like a ****** claymation movie with a moon and satellite rotating around it for 15 minutes while a british dude rambled on about how humanity was almost wiped out. *yawn*) The constant corridor map layout doesn't help at all.

In terms of pacing and progression, the mod resorts to the overused "find key card and go to locked door" concept way too many times.

Overall I'd say this mod had potential, but just turned out to be a boring mess. It's kind of hard to believe that it took about 2 years for this mod to be made. It seems to me more effort was put into the voice acting, music, and story rather than actual game play and presentation. (There are actually people there who gave this an 8/10? Get real people)
