Oh, come on. Really? Crud. Everything looked absolutely perfect until "Run setup.exe". I don't suppose there's any chance for a zip archive? I run Linux.

You have to talk to him if you want him to heal you. That part is inspired by Pepin from Diablo. The checkpoint part.... not so much.

Yeah, that it could. It's a relatively rough draft as of now, no optimization yet.

I used the brush to create the basic shapes in solid color and then used a white airbrush with lowered saturation for the shading. The proportions and such... I just drew it, damnit, it's not like I planned that before I started.

That was quite easy actually. The point of the picture is the health bar, though, as the knight is relatively old already.

It is supposed to be confusing. The code for every single direction is the very same except, well, for the direction. So there is no "fly" key per se - but the indicator is a useful idea. I'm currently thinking about how it could be implemented. I'm still new to this engine.

"Out of control" is pretty much what I am aiming for actually. If you try to go to fast, you are likely to be thrown in to a violent spin which is nearly impossible to control - thus you can't just rush through the levels.

License-wise it would be no problem to sell a BGE game. It's open source, after all.
I don't think I would do that, though. Would be kind of a **** move, I guess.

Merchant. Sells potions, weapons and ammo and also buys most of your stuff. That sprite isn't final yet, he'll get a few different ones picked at random, like the citizens.

Supposedly, grass. If the floor had one uniform tile, you could never tell when there was a way you could go, thus I had to use two distinct tiles. Admittedly it is currently the same as the tree leaves, but the tileset isn't finished anyways (There's only the city done yet, and if you've seen the map, you know there'll be more areas than that. Next up: Building interior) so there's a chance we'll get proper grass.

Heh, thanks. I may be a damn ****** texture artist (which is why I am not a texture artist to begin with), but working on 2D games does sooner or later teach you some tricks regarding 2D sprites.

It's not all too busy. The platforms... well, all rooftops in the front of the scenery (as in, on this side of the wall) can be walked on, which is a principle I will keep up for the rest of the game.

You make that sound like it's a bad thing. Despite the name, it is a powerful tool which, in the right hands, can produce absolutely great results. Not that mine were the right hands, but you get the idea.

Althir Jan 1 2011, 5:27pm replied:

Actually, I am aware of - I hope - most bugs. It is my first platformer whatsoever and thus I don't really know how to fix them. Most suggestions, by the way, will most likely be used in a second game, which some might call a sequel. Not that it would be a sequel. The user can easily create and share his or her own levels if he knows how.
As to the music... well, I never heard it in game due to software limitations. But I put an off-switch in there for a reason.

Rest assured, I have never ripped a texture nor will I ever rip a texture for such a purpose. This is all original, albeit obviously bad, work. Entirely made from scratch. If you wish I could even show you the XCF-File with the two million layers.

Aaand to add to the topic:
I am not a texture artist by any means. I suck at it, that's why. I don't like to make textures either. Which is why I am so bad. I joined this dev team because I liked - and still like - to make 3D models. I only made the texture because there was nobody else to do it. I know it's below our standards, but that's all I can give.
