We are still working on the UDK version, sorry that there has not been any media updates lately. We are nailing down all the core mechanics before diving heavily into content creation and also polishing the content that is already created. The UT3 version is no longer in production, so unfortunately there will not be any new missions for the mod. However, we will eventually release a demo for the game that will contain new missions and complete renovations of the existing ones.
Yes, the story will be the driving factor of each mission :)
Some of those aspects will be revealed as they are developed, but only after they have been polished. The Priestess will not be in the first release so there is no public information concerning the class at this time.
1) There is buying, but not selling. Archasis is not a "real" RPG in your terms in that it is a mix between a strategy game and a tactical RPG. Gameplay is based on story-driven missions, not arenas.
2) Overall gameplay will be significantly different than the UT3 version, so don't use that as a reference.
3)The current animations in Archasis are identical to the ones in the mod version. In addition, the Archasis mod version never (ever) used the default UT3 animations, so I'm not sure what you are thinking of. Perhaps your mind is playing tricks on you ;)
Thanks, what stands out the most that needs to be addressed?
Thanks, I would like to distribute it globally, so it depends on if I can find a good German translator ;)
Thanks for the crit, the team is in the process of redoing all the animations as we speak :)
The team is well-aware of UDK's licensing terms :)
Eventually, but right now the focus is on a single-player campaign
no clue, but obviously something very reasonable. We are just hoping to get at least "something" back for all our work ;)
There will be free demos during development, but the final version will have a pricetag.
Thanks, zbrush is a beautiful thing :)
True, although UDK handles normal maps better, has a indirect illumination lighting engine, and also real-time ambient occlusion which does make it look more awesome just on its own.
Thanks for the compliments!
There are only three playable missions in the latest/last UT3 release. We had planned on creating many more (as the dotted path suggests), but that was before the news of the UDK.
Glad to hear your interest in the mod! The mage is my personal favorite, so I hope not to disappoint ;)
To answer your questions:
1)Unfortunately the current version does not support online play
2)As long as your computer can play UT3, it can play Archasis, although Archasis is less demanding on the video card. Those specs seem decent enough to at least be playable.
Well actually, this screenshot is using UT3... with the UDK it should look even better!
Hehe, glad you like it! I hear you about the "shockrifle ball," it relies too heavily on bloom for visibility, which doesn't show up well on many video cards.
As far as a "full version" or stand-alone goes, there currently isn't one. However, with the availability of the UDK, we have put development of the mod version of Archasis on indefinite hold in favor of working on a new stand-alone version. We will keep the community posted on its development as we make more progress.
Not at the current time, Archasis is geared towards keyboard/mouse controls. It requires the aiming accuracy of a mouse and the vast number of keybindings a keyboard allows; a gamepad doesn't provide enough buttons to sufficiently play Archasis.
Thanks, we are excited as well!
Yeah, the online support fell short of the MSUC deadline. I believe it is true that UDK lacks some net code for online play, at least for now. My guess is that Epic will continue to evolve the UDK and eventually add the support if it cannot be addressed through unrealscript alone.
Cooperative play will be in the works for Archasis UDK, although I hadn't considered fixing up the mod version of Archasis II for online play. I've been focusing on the UDK lately since the port is going to be a pretty serious ordeal. Perhaps during/after the holidays I can go back to Archasis II and add the multiplayer features ;)
Thanks! Glad you like it!
Well, it's hard to say how long the port will take... we've been looking at the UDK and realize there's some issues code-wise that could take a while to resolve. In addition, the team is considering less of a "port" and more of a "start over" kind of approach. We would be essentially creating a new Archasis game in the same style of Archasis II and reusing any assets that we can, but with a fresh start on code. The nature of the competition resulted in some less-then-optimal decisions overall and corners were cut to get it done. If we plan to produce something retail-worthy, we need to step it up on the "polish" side of development and take it slow. In addition, we don't want to rely on any UT3 assets (including code), which we had to do for Archasis II in order to complete it on time.
Yes, we are all very excited about the UDK! Archasis will begin to port over to the UDK following the end of the MSUC (November 13th), although there will be a lot of work to do in the process.
Thanks for the input, I'm glad you enjoy it! We agree that the art-side of things are sub-par to the capabilities of the engine. With the Grand Finals of the MSUC fast-approaching, we are pushing to create a new mission that will hopefully be much more satisfying. If there is time, I'm sure we will try to "upgrade" some of the visuals for the other missions.
How did you install UT3? Retail or Steam? The location shouldn't matter since the installer checks your registry for the installation folder. The readme and instruction manual explain what the shortcut should be:
Thanks for the input. The current system in Archasis sounds more akin to said M&M system. Moving forward alternates between a thrust and vertical strike, whereas strafing results in horizontal swings. What do you mean by "moves the enemy left"?
Hmmm, good question, I'm not sure. It seems like as long as it is UT3 v2.1 it should work. The only way to find out is to give it a try ;) Luckily Archasis is a relatively small download. If it doesn't seem to be working, let me know.
It usually takes several months for Epic to judge all the entries, so I'm guessing we won't even know finalists until the end of October or beginning of November.
