I woke up with this idea after about half my normal amount of sleep and it's been bouncing around my brain all day...

"Retro-future titan deathmatch"

Retro-future : The Future as envisaged in science fiction at the start of the last century. Utopian sky scraper filled dome covered cities on mars. Rayguns, Rocket packs and Flying cars. Green skinned aliens in flying saucers.

Titan : Massive (several stories high) humanoid robot/vehicles from warhammer 40,000. Think biiiig mechas.

Deathmatch : Personal combat in an enclosed arena.

Basic idea of this mod would be to put players in the pilot seat of a giant retro-future mecha (or rather a 3rd person view), striding around a maze of streets (lined with destructible buildings) of a domed city, fighting other such mechs.

It would be fun to let the player customize their mech, pick from a selection of suitably bizzare weapons, a limited about of wargear that modifies how it plays and some aesthetic options (do we go for the "Brain in a jar" head or the "flashing lights and thermonic valves" robot head.

I mentioned wargear, these are big bits of kit built into the mech. Here's the sort of thing I'm thinking of:
ForceField - protects against a limited amount of energy attacks ( rayguns / lazers )
Armor - Protects againsta limited amount of conventional weapons ( bullets / explosives )
Damage Amplifier - increase all damage dealt
Rocket pack - enable double jumping
Generator - repair forcfields and resupplies energy ammo
Fabricator - repair macha health, armor and conventional ammo
Speed manipulator - boost the machas maximum traveling speed
Drone Gunner - a 3rd weapon that automatically targets enemy mechs

Weapons:
Raygun - a generic all round energy weapon
Tommygun - conventional machine gun
Hunter Seeker - a powerfull chemical rocket that has to be piloted to its target
Lazer - a sniper energy weapon
Plasma cannon - a slow firing very powerful energy weapon
Mine Layer - Deploy explosive proximity mines

Mecha parts:
Heads: Brain, Kotos/Kang, Valve Robot, Giant Eyeball, Speaker Grill
Bodies:Sphere, Cylinder, Box
Arms:Tenticles with pincers, boxy arms
Legs:Boxy Legs, Tenticles, Saucer,Caterpillar tracks

I imagine the cities made of modular buildings, so you can blast out individual walls or stories.

Why are the mechs fighting here? whayre they fighting at all? Only Ming knows!
