Back before I started on Exterminatus I was working on a high-fantasy themed virtual sports mod for HL2 called "Dash 'n' Bash". Pretty sure moddb has archived it by now.

For anyone that knows Games Workshop's Bloodbowl, that was pretty much Dash 'n' Bashes inspiration.

For everyone else imagine teams of the classic high fantasy races ( Orcs, Dwarves, Elves, Undead etc.) playing american style football, with "heavy contact" (brawling) on fantasy themed "pitches" (dungeon, fairy woodlands, lava flows etc ).

Fantasy isn't really my thing, I prefer high tech. However I have been thinking of trying my hand at this again lately.

Trouble is, it really needs player bots, to make up the team numbers and I suck at AI coding in Source. There is a lot of talk about the UDK around the modsphere these days. It's got me wondering if it wouldn't be easier to try and apply my skills to the UDK and leverage the bot AI there than try and work with the brain ache I know the Source SDK gives me.

Has anyone out there got anyhting to say about a modder moving from Source to UDK?

I'll be using my spot in the D:WotS team to eyeball this UDK tech, see if it really is any better or just different.

Is anyone interested in teaming up to make this happen? Maps, Models, sound effects, art that kind of thing.

Note to self: Consider moving this game play to a post-apocalyptic setting

"Rust Bowl"

Leather armor, spikey stuff, mutants, cannibals, drugs, scrapyard arenas, referees driving punknaught mechas

something to compete for... water

oh another puntastic idea hits me for this "Rust Bowl" concept...

"Radiation fields"

Make the goal lines radioactive. Matches are a fixed length because that's the "safe" duration in the radiation fields.

In DnB the player characters could boost their stats after a winning play. It might be nice to be able to keep a customized player between matches and let player unlock these "All Stars" in later matches. Maybe a pickup/powerup that spawns randomly? or if they get removed from the field as a casualty? (like MW2 death-streaks).
