Can you talk a bit more about the work you're looking for a C++ programmer to do?

Does the enhanced recoil feature address bug tracker issues 810 Coc.epicstalker.com and 811 Coc.epicstalker.com?

The degenerate behavior where a weapon with both a laser and a scope is less accurate when scoped in is certainly the stronger case for altering the laser mod's behavior.

The rarity of the laser sight (Liberty Island, then Hong Kong, then Shipyard) doesn't really matter as it only takes a stealth pistol to 1-shot all human enemies up until Paris. You get a silent, super-accurate-even-while-moving weapon system before you even leave Liberty Island for the first time, even with minimal pistol proficiency.

I urge you to reconsider your stance. Even if it's not a canonical GMDX feature, it would still be a welcome addition as an opt-in GMDX option.

I just finished playing DX with Shifter for the first time and thought it contained really good changes to the laser sight weapon mod. If you're unfamiliar with how Shifter works, enabling the laser sight no longer makes a gun shoot 100% accurately at the center of the screen. Instead, the laser sight tracks where within the crosshair bloom the shot is going to hit. This means that the position of the laser changes between shots, converges towards the center of the screen as the crosshair tightens, and diverges as the crosshair blooms. The laser sight also does not scale at range, making accurate long range shots difficult, but still possible. It's prudent to have a scope in those situations.

The Shifter solution effectively remedies what I feel are problems with how the laser sight works in vanilla DX and GMDX 8. In vanilla, installing a laser sight on a gun makes it 100% accurate to the center of the screen under all conditions (movement, wound level, etc.). For non-scoped weapons, this undermines the purpose of accuracy mods and increasing accuracy from skill upgrades. Furthermore, for scoped weapons the accuracy of the laser sight when unscoped introduces a degerate behavior where it is almost never worth it to scope in since the player has to then deal with sway. Shifter's solution makes it so that the benefits of increased accuracy modifiers are felt while unscoped with the laser sight on, and makes scoping in or not a judgement call per engagement.

A potential negative effect of Shifter's solution is that it makes it hard to run and gun effectively without achieving master-level skill in at least one gun class, but that could be thought of as a positive effect as well.

From my perspective, a system which addresses the flaws I describe above would be a welcome addition to GMDX. Shifter's solution probably isn't the only way to fix them, but I personally found it to be an intuitive and engaging way to do so. It added a deliberateness and depth back to gun fights which I feel dissapears the moment you strap a laser to your gun in vanilla DX. It would be interesting to hear your and other players' thoughts on the matter. Thanks for reading.
