Some of the developers of Verdun were well known in the BF1918 community. If I remember correctly the inside1918 homepage even had an interview with Verdun dev member Leonidas but since our site went offline it's no longer available.
Please install the latest version of both BF1942 and BF1918. For the main game it's 1.61b and for BF1918 you've to download all 3 parts of version 3.1 which are linked right above this comments section.
Make sure to have these installed:
BF1942: version 1.61b
BF1918: version 3.1
Any other version can result in problems or errors like you've experienced.
You can either start the mod from inside Battlefield 1942. Select the Custom Game tab and there you can switch to Battlefield 1918. For a working shortcut you should add the following to the target line in the shortcut's prpoerties:
+restart 1 +game bf1918
The target read something like: "C:\Program Files\Battlefield 1942\BF1942.exe" +restart 1 +game bf1918
Also make sure to have the latest patch (1.61b) for the main game installed.
Nice idea x) But it's sadly not gonna happen from our side, sorry.
Some servers are providing mutiple mods by voting when playing on these. But when they're currently hosting another mod it won't show up for the other mods in the filter. Search for "multi mod" in a server's description.
Did you chose to play with bots by starting a COOP game via the multiplayer tab? Try that if you didn't already. Starting maps from singelplayer tab can often cause crashes to dekstop.
Thanks for your vote! :)
Though we couldn't win in any category anyway due to no update of the mod in 2013, a honorable mention would've been a dream. But there are a lot of awesome mods in the top100 which definately deserve your vote. I've picked my favorites already.
PS: I can recommend the WW1 mod for Company of Heroes of our friends from "The Great War 1918" modification: Moddb.com ;)
Sadly no, we cannot offer any fixes as developmentby our team is finished. AI coding is a pretty difficult and time consuming part of modding which is why it isn't perfect in some cases. Maps were mostly made for multiplayer combat with human players only which is why some spawn poins can be difficult for bots to handle.
Always good to see that BF1918 is still able to draw a bit of attention but you're completely right: the Japanese community for BF42 ist still in an outstqanding condition which is also proven by their FHSW modification.
They certainly don't need bots to fill a server up :)
The Sunday Fight Nights were announced to be held on our own official server which sadly doesn't exist anymore. So the SFN sadly can't be supported effectively from our side any longer.
There are rarely occasions to play BF1918 online sadly due to the lack of dedicated servers.
I can only help you in English and German but I'll try my best at answering your question:
If I get it right, you have downloaded the mod but you don't know how to install it. You need all 3 parts of the installation files and have to make sure, that you've deleted all previous versions of BF1918.
Then you install every part from 1 to 3 into the Battlefield 1942\Mods directory. In order to start the game you have to set the main game's .exe to WinXP SP3 compatibility mode and check the 'Run as admin' box.
Many of the maps aren't suitable for bot support as the AI can't handel a lot of specific map situations. For example trenches (which are a key element of WW1 warfare) can't be recognized properly by bots as they only have a horizontal pathmap. Plus AI coding is a very difficult and time consuming task that not many people are still capable of or still modding for BF42. Our coders did their best to outfit as many of the maps with bot support and they certainly did an awesome job considering that they were very short on time until our final release.
Long story short: ~50% is a very good rate of Coop maps and we already did our best to provide as much bot support as possible. Also the development is finished, we aren't working on a new version and can't expand bot support.
Thank you for your encouragement but as the dev team has retired after the final release it isn't possible to keep up the work at least on this project ;) Nevertheless thank you again for your kind words.
All the best and grettings.
The original or former developer team of BF1918 planned to release the mod for BF2 but the project was canceled. But they managed to release a mini-mod called "Airshow" focused on WW1 planes and dogfights.
A few years ago another team picked up the idea of BF1918 for BF2 and called the project "No man's land" which was based on the original team's efforts. They produced some new content but currently the project is sadly inactive.
The inside1918 team was 'only' a community page dedicated to BF1918 which took over the development from the original team. When they moved on to BF2, BF1918 had it's final build but inside1918 decided to take on the future development of the mod with the consent of the original devs.
We can't confirm ourselves that BF1918 is working on Win8 but other users reported that they had no problems when using the same settings from Win7.
This means you've to set the games .exe to Win XP SP3 in compatibility mode and best is to check the Admin mode box too.
Just like THE123AVATAR said below.
I'm not aware of any specific plans for a future torunament. For a new tournament we would need many new maps of high quality and most probably some new ingame toys, too. As the dev team has finished the main mod and is inactive since 2011 this is very unlikely.
Please read the previous suggestions posted in the comments below and tell us which solutions you've already tried so we can further help you.
There is no official tournament or server active if that was your question. There are a few servers online hosting Bf1918 maps but they're sometimes difficult to find as the popularity of BF42 itself is decreasing.
Austria-Hungary is one of the many armies featured in BF1918 and you're able to fight as one of them vs Russia like on Brusilov Offensive & Krakow (incl. bot support) or vs Italy on Monte Piana & Tolmezzo on at least 7 maps.
Did you load the game via Singeplayer or Multiplayer option? We recommend to select the Multiplayer tab and choose the game mode 'COOP' to start a singleplayer game with bots.
If it's still crashing, have you tried to set up the compatibility mode for your BF1942.exe? BF1918 is supposed to run flawlessy when WinXP SP3 is selected.
Which dev are you talking of?
When installed correctly you can choose the mod from your Custom Games list ingame and start it this way. You can also edit a shortcut of your BF1942.exe and change the target line by adding " +restart1 +game bf1918" to the end. Then the game should directly load up the mod.
I can't provide much support in Desura related questions but I've sent you a PM on this case already.
Are you launching the mod from a shortcut? If so, please change th target line of the BF1918 shortcut to "(your directory)\BF1942\BF1942.exe +restart1 +game bf1918
Please also make sure to select the "WinXP SP3" compatibility mode for your BF42.exe as most mods don't run on modern OS.
I'm assuming the vanilla game itself still runs perfect?!
Most certainly because there aren't any servers up. Our own server stopped working last year and we couldn't set it up again. There are a few servers who have a multiple mod set-up but when there's another mod running the server isn't shown as a BF1918 one. Look instead for servers which show e.g. 'multi-mod' in their description/title.
Many maps also offer bot support for singleplayer, we made sure to provide as many singleplayer maps as possible. Though some of the best maps are sadly not available with bots as the AI couldn't handle certain game aspects like trenches which is a pity for a WW1 scenario.
There's no special download for Origin, just download the files we're offering here. Install the mod into the Origin Games\Battlefield 1942\mods directory of your BF1942 game and it should work. Don't forget to set the compatibility mode to "WinXP SP 3".
We had many great ideas for new maps, the only things missing were time and more mappers, sadly.
What a question... Of course! :D
