This is still the rather unmaintained Alien Swarm branch.
Because it is the most up-to-date version of the Source SDK.
We've wrapped up the final revision of our new inventory system, and are currently applying bugfixes to the game. Hopefully we'll be released within the month (November).
This really wouldn't work well with the current radial VIS system that we're using...
We really are working hard on this! Our team is currently dead in the water due to an SVN server outage (which should hopefully be over soon), but after that we only have a few more basic things to complete before we release 0.1.1!
Also maps might not look as detailed as alien swarm due to the lack of film grain ;)
We are planning to have this fixed in our second release.
Was your client crashing or the server? I don't see any server crashes on this end... If you have any *.mdump files in your steamapps/common/alien swarm/ folder, (make sure to only look for ones that are from the time you were playing hyp, they won't be labeled "hyp") I would be grateful if you could send them to ibemad@gmail.com
Why do you dislike aiming? and you need to go find some other weapons if you expect to survive >:D
We tried some dynamic shadows a while ago, and decided that we simply couldn't justify the performance loss. We were also using a 2048^2 size shadow map, but it still had some pretty bad aliasing when it was set to cover the amount that we needed to.
