Sry I'm kinda late to post, but still, I would gladly hear your opinion.
Personally, I think DICE made brave step here because nowadays gaming needs something drastically fresh so WW1 setting is truly unique one yet. I bet BF1 can be overwhelmingly successful.
I think it will be good, lets just hope EA doesn't rush it out like BF4.

There will be definitely no mods and also no bots, but there will be some stupid campaign or no single player at all. Also, the campaign will be probably very bad like in the previous games. Bad Company 2 has a very good campaign, but still it was easy and short. Also, since DICE no longer care about the community it will be probably broken on release too, however since DICE LA have been patching battlefield 4 and DICE Sweden port many of their fixed to BF Hardline it could also mean that Battlefield 1 could be bug free. I guess time will tell and we have to wait for that.
Also, there was a great discussion about this here ( Moddb.com ) so I recommend you and others to check it out too.
I'm usually not a fan of world war 1/2 themed shooter, but DICE did manage to get my interest by showing stylised world war 1 theme. There will also be an enhanced melee combat, if they can execute it well it could be a great way to diversify the gameplay styles.
