How will fighting enemies from on or in a castle work if the enemies are outside the rendered space of the castle?

I can't wait to see the Mines of Moria. That will be one of the most grand of the places to adventure. One question though, will the mines actually take a while to get through like in the lore? It's a 3 day trip, and the major fighting only happens at the end so will there be mystery and adventure for something like 10-20 minutes before you arrive at Balin's tomb?
