Not much to say. It was Porsche's rival to the Henschel Tiger design. It had engines that drove electric generators, which in turn powered electric motors connected to the rear sprockets.

It was a pointlessly complicated system, but Porsche liked experimenting with stuff like that.

Initially Hitler ordered 100 or so of them and wanted them sent to north Africa I think but it was eventually cancelled, but I can't remember much beyond that.

Eventually it became the basis for the Ferdinand tank destroyer which were split between pz. jager abt. 653 and 654 at Kursk.

Achtung panzer can probably explain anything further better than I can.

I can't find much on it after it actually got to the front but I believe it was in action for a month or two before being destroyed by the Russians. The commander survived, however.

All the Ferdinands had the extra armour though.

Description

This is the sole Tiger (P) that saw combat. It was personally requested for use as a command tank by the commander of schwere panzerjager abteilung 653. It had an extra 100mm of armour bolted to the front to keep with the standard of the Ferdinands.
