5.) T34-85 (T34 upgraded with 85mm gun)

can penetrate Tiger's front armor from ~500m distance.
In return the Tiger can take him out from 1,4km range already.

Wow, the T-34 85mm cannon performed worse than the M4A4's 76mm cannon.

Anyway the Tiger was way more heavier than most of the tanks the Allies had, on the other hand it was a bitch to maintain while the Allies tanks had a much better logistics efficiency.

It's not the gun dude =) It's the ammo for it.

This compares a Heavy Tank with Medium ones, there is no 'honor' in this for the Tiger.

If it were between Heavy tanks like Tiger, Pershing and IS-2 it would be more of a fair fight.

In 1943, medium tanks as well as outdated heavy tanks were the only things the Allies had. Whereas the Germans had the tiger & Ferdinand in 1943.

It was the tank of its time with these mediums and was considered outdated by mid-1943. By the time the IS-2 and pershing were introduced the next generation of German heavies had come along and thus the only thing they can be compared to is the king tiger or the upgraded panther.

What i'm trying to say is the only reason they're being compared like this is because these were the best tanks the Allies had at the height of the Tiger's service.

Well yeah, the Allies where slow to build tanks in response to German ones because they though there were very few Tigers and Panthers. By the time they realized their mistake, the King Tiger was already in service.

The Panther weighted ~45t (1943-1945)
The Pershing weighted ~46t (available in 1943 but production started in 1945 cause 'there was no need' -1952)
The IS-2 weighted ~46t (1943-1945)

The Tiger weighted ~57t (1942-1945)

The King Tiger weighted ~70t (1944-1945)

Considering their weight class differences and classifications, it would only be fair to compare the Panther, Pershing and IS-2 between them, not vs the Tiger 1 and 2 or to ad Medium Tanks in the mix...thats all Im saying.

Yeah, i think the panther is abit more comparable as that was upgraded a few times and had many things in development until the end of the war thus kept up with them.

Well, during the war USSR produced around 87 000 T-34s while the technologically more advanced tigers where around 1 500. The war was game of numbers back then.

Well even so I think heavy tank is still beatable by small fast TD's
Such as the wolverine
But from tank vs tank perspective not all us or soviet tank can stand toe to toe with german heavy tank... BUT
Even so these heavy tank (like the king tiger) weren't so effective

you do know that the American combined arms doctrine: Support and exploit Tanks with Rapid Response Tank Destroyers was a failure, first of all the the Wolverine was to slow heavy and undergunned to even fit into its doctrine. (worse gun then a sherman 76 lol)

The M18 Hellcat however was exactly what it was supoused to be, a very light TD with no more then 20mm front armour, and 100km/h road speed. It did however only once in the war get use of that high road speed which it sacrificed so much armour for. It however accelerated fast which was useful in combat. With rare special HVAP ammo it could penetrate the Panther at point blank range, any german AT gun could penetrate the m18 at any range, even a Schwerer Panzerspähwagen posed a dangerous threat to it with its also high speed and 20mm auto cannon witch made swiss cheese of the M18.

Just look at the US tanks after the war, they are all now real tank destroyers & heavily armoured...

Description

A comparison table showing Tiger I's adventages over Westwern Allied/Soviet tanks.

From top to bottom:

1.)Cromwell.

His 75mm gun cannot perforate the front armor at any range.
Tiger on the other hand can destroy him from 2,5km

2.)M4A2 Sherman.

75mm gun cannot puncture Tiger's front from any range.
M4's armor will be penetrated from 1,8km and further

3.) M4A4 upgrade (1944)

longer 76mm gun may penetrate the Tiger's front armor from 700m.
Its vulnerability is the same as of the other M4 variants.

4.) M4 Firefly VC (british upgerade with 17prd gun)

17pdr penetrates Tiger's front armor from 1,750m (by far the best result)

5.) T34-85 (T34 upgraded with 85mm gun)

can penetrate Tiger's front armor from ~500m distance.
In return the Tiger can take him out from 1,4km range already.

Note: early T34-76 model is not listed here, but his 76mm gun can not penetrate the Tiger's front armor at any range too.
