Operation Citadel was the last major german offensive in Russia. More than 250 000 german and 450 000 soviet soldiers were either killed, wounded or missing in action.

More losses in this one battle than all US casualties over the course of the war... and we Americans still think our little thing in France was the turning point in Europe.
Operation Overlord was indeed a turning point in WWII. Operation value isn't determined by how bloody they are but how much tactical advantage they can get you, and Overlord gave Allies a lot more than Kursk at much less cost. US and Britain could of course go Russian way, winning by sheer number and they would still win with Germany, but would it be worth it?
Exactly! And Overlord wasn't supposed to be a war winner on its own, it was to open a second front and distract the Germans so the Russians could bludgeon their way West.
