French army not discarded slow ancient tanks such FT-17,FT18-Kegrese,Char -2C; Also ultraheavy FCM produced as prototype, compared with MAUS,but slower and more ineffective.
In other hand they didn't decide types for mass-production: Only 100 Char-D2, and 100 AMC-35 produced. Imagine mass of them. Somua-S35 was good, and H39, but R35 (and FCM-36, another 100-units mini seria)was failure. R40 was slightly
better, but AMC35 was goal.You can calculate 418 S35-cavalry + 100 charD2 + 100 AMC35 + 405 CharB1-bis,+ 1200 H35/39 + 145 r40.975 R35 was in service 1939, but despite of better suspension, this was ineffective in tank to tank battle, as FT17,and this was not fast.No more than 2368 modern tanks for France in may 1940, adding 1075 new, but no perfect R35 and FCM36 - both with inferior firepower.
