Syrian Tankman who was interviewed said the T-72AV is excellent but side armour keeps falling off.

Those are just small Panzer IV's with side armours.
Could the ERA detonate if it get ran over or squashed between the tracks and the wheels?
Look it up.
No, you need HEAT or APFSDS with high kinetic energy to blow it off or an HE artillery shell detonated close to the skirt. You can drill, crush it, smash it with a hammer or even put them on fire and they wont explode. You need a lot of kinetic energy to detonate Kontakt-1 ERA, the force has to be a combination of high impact velocity and penetration with a minimum of 150,000 PSI, which is 75 tons of -pressure per inch square-(it means that for 1 square inch it will detonate at 75 tons of "pressure"), not to get confused with 75 tons of "force".
