This group is for everyone who like tanks, sci-fi tanks, real tanks, funny tanks, you can put here tank mods, tank maps, simply everything with straps, armor and gun :D
I can't think of a proper group to post this on, thought maybe this one would be the more relevant one.
Anyone got any know how about the pantherturm?

Well, I'm pretty sure it's called 'Panzer turm' since they used various tank turrets to make defense stuctures. Basically a bunker with rotatable turret so it can attack in all directions.
Pantherturm because it't the turret of a Panther. And Panzerturm is more like a general name, because panzer = tank, so tank turret.
This is the Panther turm, because, it was used mainly on the Panther. I don't know any other tank that used this turret (except for the prototypes/bergepanzers and stuff like that)
Bad waste of a Panther I say.
Not really, since by that point in time Germany don't really have the fuel or the materials to make so many full tanks. And a bunker with turret is more survivable than a actual tank. Since Germany was on the defensive by then turret bunkers like the Pantherturm is a more useful use of scarce materials.
Point taken. I realize the obvious shortage of raw materials Germany possessed by the end of the war was extensive, but still a shame to see such an awesome piece of German engineering turned into this.
True though, better than sitting in some factory.
I like it how the turret has a chimney, nothing says home sweet home more than a chimney for a nice cosy fire.
Put grenade in there(chimney), this would be a very easy obstacle for infantry.
I think that's more of a "snorkel" than a chimney. Pretty sure its to let the soldiers breath underground.
