I just had a thought, if iran is in the mind set of upgrading there old tanks then why arnt they doing that now like T-72s have nothing on Merkava mk3, but then again Russia or China could be giving them old tanks too

Their current T-72S's are armed with 2A46M(D-81T) Tank gun which can pretty much screw any tanks in the world and feature extensive ERA and indigenous add-on composite armor protection. The Khoramshahr is basically a Iranian G-3 upgrade package for their T-72s slimier to the the Russian T-90.

As for why are they not doing in now is because Armor upgrade is not their priority. They are focusing on developing strong Air-Defense-System or like the RAAD and Bavar 373.
