Sherman firefly? Bah! This thing had the 17 pounder way before that. Unfortunately it never saw service and production was discontinued after large numbers of Shermans and British tanks became available.
looks like a combination of the french Char B1 and the british Crusader II tank turret, with a 17 pounder gun
I don't really see how it looks like a B1, but i can see the crusader-ness.

Hrmm why didn't we field this exactly.
Well, originally it was designed as a last miute tank to hold off any Japanese invasion, but Australia didn't exactly have the industrial capability to keep up production. So as soon as other tanks became available and it was evident there wasn't going to be a Japanese invasion, production was halted so more resources could be diverted to other things.
I'm not entirely sure why why didn't use some of the already produced models in service though.
