It's sad that it works this way. For once, we get a decent president, Clinton, and BOOM out of Washington because of his personal life. I don't care if the president adds a goddamn harem to the white house, long as he's a good elected official.

Actually, Clinton was impeached for perjury, not his affair with Monica Lewinsky. Still, I definitely agree that people these days pay a lot of unnecessary attention to the president's personal life.

True that, he couldn't have been impeached for the affair; yet the public outrage which would've followed pretty much forced his hand in that regard methinks.

What is it which demands people who can do their job perfectly well, yet the moment there's a "scandal" that person is suddenly unfit to do their job the moment the public finds out.

(this is primarily an American phenomenon, for instance the French had elected a president a few years ago midst an affair)
