To some, he's regarded a hero who liberated Cuba, and gave the the citizens back their land. To others, he's regarded as corrupt tyrant who stole Cuba from it's rightful owners. What are your thoughts about this interesting man?
Cant say much about him.
He overthrew one of the many United States friendly dictatorships, so in that regard I wouldn't say his initial cause couldn't have been anything too terrible. Plus I've heard good things about Cuba actually being socialist or at least very much so. For example, the organisation and rationing of resources where they would otherwise be hoarded and not have enough for everyone during some semi-recent drought, or some other extraordinary weather phenomenon I can't remember precisely. So at the bare minimum, they at least have their **** together.
Random Questioning of Common Terms Moment:
"Rightful owners," because dirt has many owners but different areas of dirt have a owner dependent on how a map is drawn because the owner has enough power to say so.
Logic, **** yeah.
To be honest, I'm actually very supportive of Castro. I'm just trying to bring out two sides of an argument. To many people, he's the hero who saved Cuba from being ruled by corrupt Mafia lords. A lot of former Cuban landowners hate him, because he started dividing the land equally instead of allowing the big boys to hoard it all for themselves. In the beginning of his revolution, the US was actually very supportive of him, because they were sure they could easily bend this rebellious little university graduate to do as they please. When they realized that he wasn't going to let them walk all over Cuba like they used to, they went ballistic. Literally.
Cuba has the world's highest healthy population ratio, and also one of the world's highest population ratio of educated people. All in all, they're better off then they ever were under Batista.
Most of his people like him as their leader. That's what matters, right?
I find it interesting that we never hear anything about him anymore. He could be dead now for all we know.
