As long as you use the corpse (ie for food, the pelt etc.) and its a clean kill, then i don't see a problem. Stuff like killing an elephant for the tusks and not using anything else i have a problem with, or wounding the animal and letting it die slowly.

Also lions are predators meaning the animals they hunt outnumber them ten to one, so hunting lions is a lot more devastating to the ecosystem then hunting a common prey animal.

Yeah, i forgot to mention that if killing a lot of the animals would seriously damage the ecosystem then i dont agree. Like obviously killing endangered animals is a not a good thing to do. usually they have quotas for this reason i think.

As long as it doesn't affect the ecosystem in any noticeable way or unjustified way, I don't care.

I am not really a fan of trophy hunting, at least in this way.

I am myself a hunter, of deer, turkey, rabbit, squirrel etc.
but we use the meat and as admiral said we always assure a clean kill and a quick death.
I also hunt and trap for fur, but only animals that's population is stable (or as in the case of some far to high)

I even don't mind true trophy hunting, if you are actually hunting.
I know bear hunters who actually go out and spend days tracking but
in Africa they ride out and shoot it at a distance with a high powered rifle.

The feared squirrel hunter!

Agreed, hunting yes, but not this way.

I also think that these "parks" should not be enclosures. Remember when **** Cheney was shooting at defenseless quail and shot his friend? Well they DROVE to an ENCLOSURE where they KEEP the animals hostage and they even CLIP THEIR WINGS so they're easier to shoot. It's an animal version of a death camp. I'm not impressed until I see someone kill an attacking bear with only a plastic food knife head on, then you have the right to call yourself badass.

enclosure hunting is insulting, they go out spend an hour and come back "a man" there is no challenge to it.
I spend days from 3 hrs before sun up to sun down in the freezing cold, and I may or may not see anything.

Animals should only be killed in defense or if you need the resources for survival. Most animals also kill due to these things. We shouldn't kill them for fun. Go and play bloody Halo if you want to kill for fun!

if your talking to me knight well for me meat is cheaper, my family is poor so if we get acouple deer we have meat of a year

we avoid the store whenever possible because of cost, we also raise are own animals and grow a lot of our own food.

we sell fur for money, plus with deer and raccoons the population in my area is to high because of urbanization and causes problems with disease (like rabies and chronic wasting)
if enough are not killed and used for food in season than the government pays people to kill hundreds and then destroy them- feeding no one because of disease.

but on a larger scale, I do agree with you- things like lion hunting in this way are nothing but a waste.

Killing an animal that has no intention (Or capability) of escaping or harming you just for a trophy is not okay. However if you need to kill an animal for food or clothing then it would be okay but do not use a weapon that makes it impossible for the animal to get away unless you really need to eat something.

If someone wants to kill for fun they should make hunting based video games with great AI.

I concur with Knight, Elf, Admiral, etc., the only time in which killing a lion would be alright is if it were going to be used for food or clothes, and not disturb the ecosystem.

Suppose that we could grow our own meat in laboratories and make artificial clothes of high quality on a sustainable basis, and there's no practical point in hunting. Is it just in that case?

Here in Virginia (I just recently moved here from CA) you have to carry any bears you kill to the closest ranger station (which could be miles)- this includes a bear that was charging/attacking you or other people.

Here in Illinois there are "no" bears- which means that if you see a bear you are either to shoot it on sight or report it so they can shoot it.
so the state can keep lying and saying there are none.
same way with mountain lions, hunters and farmers don't report them anymore because the state kills them whenever reported- and its good for the deer population health to have them. so officially in Illinois there are no mountain lion (even though there is a permanent resident breeding population)
but our state officials are borderline retarded, recently they announced there is no problem with invasive wild hog and Russian boar- when fly overs have counted close to a thousand in just the area I live in.
its an ecological and agricultural nightmare and these idiots are busy ignoring it.

Hm- I actually thought there was federal regulation there preventing ecologically destructive laws like that...

yes if their is an official population yes. if there is no "official" population with predators they can just call them migratory and the state can shoot them. in Illinois they use the excuse of urbanization and defending the idiots to justify it.
with hogs many states are having problems but haven't done anything because there is a group that is lobbying them to ignore the hogs- its rich a-holes who like hunting them and don't want them removed or wiped out by the people who have to deal with hem (like me) what's really bad is these idiots have been releasing Russian boar into the hog populations to make to "more fun" which is just making it ore dangerous for people who have to live with it(again me).
so they will continue to all invasive species to wreak havoc on the food chain and on our food supply (hogs can destroy a field in hours)

Hunting for sport is unjustifiable. Hunting for subsistence, as long as it respects the populations of animals, is acceptable.

I believe we should respect animals as we respect ourselves. It's not right to kill humans just for the sake of it so it shouldn't be right to do the same to animals just for the sake of it.

I'll keep this brief:

Is hunting for sport can be justified? Is is really "manly" or in this case "Glorious" to kill an animal that really didn't meant any harm to you?
