I place non human civilizations before 5000 B.C. or so but it might be they thrived on much later
Could be a good theory that it was orks
It was a joke on that the iske is called Orkney (which actually has legendarily been inhabited by Orcs, or Ogres which are the same thing).
Halfway i suspect it even was inhabited by them , not just a joke
