“We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in Western Australia, we shall fight on the Great Barrier Reef and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength on Aires Rock, we shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight in the desert, we shall fight on the emu nesting grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender, and even if, which I do not for a moment believe, this island or a large part of it were subjugated and starving to the evil emu cause, then our Empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the Australian Fleet, would carry on the struggle, until, in God's good time, all the bloody emus will die.”
~ Winston Churchill's famous speech on the Emu War.

But the British wasn't the largest empire ever, it was a certain empire at its highest extension between 1580 and 1640...

Hint: They spoke Spanish.

However I won't deny the Brits are good at making everyone forget about the real largest empire and make us believe they were.

Yes really. Between 1580 and 1640 when Spain and Portugal became one empire. That's why I said at its highest extension...

British: 33.7 million km sq.
Spanish: 35.4 million km sq. (25+10.4)

The British empire was only the largest by population, but not by extension.

The British Empire also absorbed the Portuguese Empire after they broke off from Spain again, and nowhere in the Portuguese Empire did people speak spanish, most didnt even speak portuguese, we would just learn their native language out of respect and so that they could not understand us. The fact that Spain tried to force so much of its culture into Portugal and its colonies was one of the main reasons the portuguese so readilly chose to break off from Spain. Another reason was the "Invencible Armada" fiasco that nearly caused us to go to war with Great Britain, our oldest traditional ally and the nation wich we maintain the oldest, still vigent treaty with on the History of Mankind.
