But Britain still had Imperialistic values... so...
Don't get me wrong, I respect every country that tried to hold the tide and joined in as soon as they could to stop the unprecedented expansion of Nazi Germany, but even in war, no country is perfect nor is any country truly a hero.
Killing should not be rewarded.
What do you mean?
Britain pretty much lost their grasp on their imperialistic policy when famine struck Germany, things were brewing in the middle east and they had to deal with food shortage themselves.
killing should not be rewarded indeed, but the americans came out pretty darn good...
Belgium too at the end.. but you should see the mass graves here. A mass grave of 22 500 German war casualties at only 2 kilometres or so from my house.
Back then, Australia was still part of the 'British Empire' as Winston Churchill put it. And the fact that we requested British troops to be stationed in Singapore that would otherwise head over to the Middle-East really hurt his feelings towards John Curtin. This, ultimately, didn't help and Singapore was seized, and the 'last fortress in the Pacific', the 'crown jewel of the Asia', was lost.
So underestimated were the Japanese by the several thousand British civilians living in Singapore, that even though the Japs outnumbered them (about,I don't know really) 3:1 and had conquered their wall all through Vietnam and Malay and the Philippines to get to this 'stronghold', that the British were quite happy to have dances and parties and other regular activities and act as if there was no invasion at all.
The Japanese also used a tower in a house to spy on Allied troop movements. When troops petitioned to have the tower shot at to stop the spying, the officers replied (more or less) "We cannot. The owner (a very prestigeous person if I remember correctly) will be quite cross to come back and find his lovely house damaged."
Having enrolled into an ethnic conflict course recently, all of the comments for these Polandball comics are disturbingly similar to world belligerence trends. Asking peace on the internet is futile, but seeing people's desires for retributive conflict is just way too easy in these comments.
Overall comments for all Pollandball comics, not just the ones in this posting burst.
What really gets to me is that France keeps getting characterised as surrendering... and the same with Japan.
They might not have been very nice to the other countries involved, but at least they were consistent... both of them made it clear that no quarter would be asked or given, and both of them put their people first above and kind of potential profit when it came to the crunch time.
Meanwhile, we remember America as the heroes of the war when all they did was wait for the best moment to counter-attack; and then sold their stockpiled materiel to their allies at premium prices
The only heroes are the ones, on both sides, who gave everything to defend their homes. WWI was suposed to be the "war to end all wars", and that obviosuly didn't pan out... the best thing we can do now is move on togehter instead of holding old grudges
Kurwa!
It sounds like a Bioshock 1 ending with the girls when you saved them
it doesn't sound like it. It is

God, this is sad.
