Its from a anime series, but I don't remember the name

well in a way yes you could have mech units but having a machine that transforms from a aircraft to a mech frame is really just impossibly difficult. Its an interesting idea none the less tho :/
Well, as long as the life support and other critical systems are IN the cockpit frame, I say its possible, but improbable ;)
