Wrong role for a Potentially great Plane.
I agree it deserves far better then the treatment it is getting now.
TBH This plane can do EVERYTHING the F-35 is designed to (Except VTOL) with only some very cheap (Relatively speaking) upgrades.
BTW We have to thank the F-35 for one thing. It effectively stopped the "Raptor sucks" movement. In fact, it made the Raptor form a political messup to one of the finest planes of US.

The Raptor is just not suited for it's Current Mission Statement.
That Being said..It is an Excelent Multirole Fighter, The proposed FB-22 and Strike Raptor would be amazing Aircraft.
Just Think.
USAF.
F-15 Active for air dominance. Needs to be produced the plane was OUTSTANDING in its performance trials.
F-22 as Multi-Role Fighter.
F-22 Strike raptor for Wild Weasel and precision strike roles.
FB-22 for Medium Penetration Bomber.
Navy.
F/A 18 Super Hornet for Multi-Role Fighter.
F-14 ASF for Interceptor and Air Dominace.
EA-18 for Electronic Warfare.
Marines.
F/A 18 Super Hornet for Multi Role Fighter.
Next gen or Upgraded Harrier for Support and Ground attack.
All of this would be far more effective..and best of all Cost effective.
But to late now because the F-35 program Killed the Dev for now on most of these.
Not gonna happen I'm afraid... The Pentagon has blinded itself with the false glory of the F-35 and the bling of 5th generation. That's what they want and that is what they are going to throw their money at. Its the epitome of bureaucracy gone AWOL.

Nope it won't happen..and Now the F-35 itself may be canceled.
