The pack with Su-35 + part in the PAK FA development (DLC) was available in the start of the FX-2 program, but got dumped out, since our "Defense" ministry said that we don't need this much power, but at that time we had a little problem with the russians blocking our meat and stuff.

The FX-2 was decided 2 or 3 times already, but the political instability and disinterest is so big, that we might be flying (red) paper planes after our F-5s fall apart. But, **** this, we got Fifa world cup, who needs security, huh ?

It is not only about plane. If Brazil had "western" tech until now, it would be hard to take Russian standards. They would have to buy Russian weaponry, support machines and such. That would increase cost too much...

Besides, the Gripen is an excellent machine in its own right. A true engineering marvel. Unlike "That" fighter...

"That" Fighter being the one who shall not be named?

Also the Gripen IMO is a great choice.

Guys, could someone compare the Gripen to the Su-35 and the F-35. I like aircrafts, but I don't know every detail. It doesn't need to be the most detailed explanation, just an overall.

First of all, modern planes are not only planes, but systems. As for Gripen, we have them equipped with NATO systems. Original Swedish Gripen is connected by another protocols and use different tactics.

I heard that Sweden system allows one radar to guide missiles from another plane. Like you have one plane with only passive radar and one with active radar few miles behind. Enemy would see active radar and think the Gripen is still out of range, but the first one is actually closer and can fire sooner.

I believe I posted a graph that roughly showed the advantages of the Su-35 over the F-35, along with a bunch of well informed and well researched articles on both aircraft.

That being said there is no such enlightening argument for a Gripen vs Su-35 comparison, that is, without going in depth on both aircraft and manually comparing them. This is something I'm not to confident in doing.

However the Gripen has been dubbed the "Sukhoi Hunter Killer" by its manufacturer, of course I'd take that with a jar of salt as it is obviously a sales pitch.

Gripen should be compared to MiG-35. Not Su-35! It is a plane of a higher tier.

Description

The tension between the US and Brazil has come to a head with the dumping of a US F/A-18 contract in favour of Swedish SAAB's Gripen.

Personally think they should of gone all out and bought the new Su-35, seeming as Russia is keen for buyers and it would of had the plus of really rustling US jimmies.
