I think we got a special deal for the nine of them, cutting the price a fair bit. They are "multi-role," some pretty basic external weapons can be slapped on.
Totally agree though, even a bunch of export Hinds would have been cheaper and would do the same job as these things but better.
The cruel irony was in the fact that they were brought here (in several trips) by an Antonov AN124.
Just reading now that we paid $771m for the full package, which works out at $86m per (flying) chopper (one of the NH90s we brought is for spares only). That is fricken outrageous, we had no such special, in fact it looks like we paid more for these things than standard price.
I am fuming right now, literally fuming.
I guess that's what happens when you deal with over extortionate Western "Allies".
Why something like the JSF or any other kind of overpriced crap hardware seems unlikely to happen in Russia?
Probably because the consequencies that the design department and the company CEOs will be involved wouldn't be really soft.
Also the real strengh of eastern hardware is that it is designed with a good cost/effectiveness ratio in mind.
Look like large portion of it is made of composites.
We have 20 of these too here in Italy.
The price left me a bit surprised, is that thing made of gold or what?
Agreed. You can buy a Su-35 at that price.

So you're saying that they are usually almost as costly as a PAK FA? (It's going to be slightly more expensive than an Su-35BM according to Russia)
