Description
Now retired. 12 have been lost in accidents. Still holds the world record for manned aircraft speed, able to go Mach 3+.
One of my favorites! :D
You should also add the YF-12 which is a fighting version of this one but was canceled! :(

Nope. Blackbirds faster. I got to see one up close at the Smithsonian Air & Space museum. It was a beast. :O
ya, the SR71 could theoretically fly up to MACH 7 or faster if it uses hydrogen as its fuel cause of the scram jet's it is using
The MiG25 can approach the SR71's speed but can't entirely or completely match it basically as said the SR71 is faster.
Also if the MiG25 maintains its top speed for a certain period of time its engines will burnout, malfunction, breakdown, etc.
While the SR71 can maintain Mach 3 for hours at a time.
Also I do believe you mean it holds the World's Aircraft Speed Record for a Manned Aircraft.
As there are unmanned experimental aircraft that can go faster than the SR71.

It is the holder for the fastest,manned,Air-breathing aircraft. The X-15 (rocket plane) Can go faster, but it does not breathe air.
