Description
The Il-40 was an ground attack aircraft made by Ilyushin OKB, the same design bureau that designed the well known world war 2 ground attack aircraft, Il-2 Sturmovik. Just like it's predecessor it's intended role was to provide close air support to soviet army but the aircraft never reached operational duty - the Soviet Air Force (VVS) dropped the concept of close air support from its doctrine just as the work on the Il-40 was being finished.
