The Luftwaffe began attacking the Remagen Bridge almost immediately with the first few attacks on March 8. The expectation was that the Stuka would offer the best hope of a pinpoint attack on the bridge, but when all three Stukas were shot down on the first attack mission, it was obvious that another method was needed. German jet strike aircraft seemed a more survivable option since they could outrun Allied fighters and their speed might reduce their vulnerability to the growing anti-aircraft defenses the US Army was deploying around the bridge. At first, Luftwaffe chief Hermann Göring asked for volunteers to fly a suicide mission against the bridge, diving their aircraft directly into the structure. Although there were volunteers, the idea was quickly squashed by senior officers who pointed out that the bomb’s safeing and arming system would prevent the bomb from detonating in these circumstances. The second day of Luftwaffe attacks began with an assortment of propeller-driven aircraft including the ubiquitous Fw 190 and Bf 109, but also including the heavy “destroyer” fighters such as the Me 410. The first jet attacks began later that day including both the Me 262 and Arado Ar 234. This shows the attack by 8./KG 76, which staged three sorties that day. The Arado Ar 234 was Germany’s first dedicated jet bomber. It had first been deployed in 1944 on a trials basis in the reconnaissance role, but by 1945 the bomber variants were entering service in growing numbers. The first bomber missions by III./KG.76 were conducted in December 1944 over Belgium during the Battle of the Bulge. Although overshadowed by the Me 262 fighter, the Arado was one of the most sophisticated aircraft of its day. It was heavier on take off than the Me 262, so required a rocket-assisted take-off system. The pilot sat in a forward cockpit with excellent forward visibility and a state-of-the-art navigation and bombing system.

Ludendorff bridge was a kick in the balls for the Germans, they couldn't destroy the damn thing.
Probably the Old General's spirit giving Hitler a final Up Your's to Hitler :P
If you managed to destroy it, you will only make the situation worse for you. Compare Stalin's army and US army. If you stopped US, you would be captured only by soviets - and that's you really don't like.
I mean there was no convention between Stalin and Hitler, and this could cause more massacres...
Yeah, it is true that the US was more forgiving to prisoners and the German populace. But this was at a point where Hitler thought he could still stop the Soviets by devoting more resources to the east. However this would have just delayed the inevitable.
Well, Germans didn't kill any US cowboy's wife or child, so they have no reason to be as cruel as soviets. And soviets were so cruel because their officers want them to be and because they had already seen concentration camps in Poland.
You must admit Hitler was idiot. Once a hero for people giving them work, but then... he was so lucky in the beginning - our borders, unfinished Maginot's line in France, quick finish in poland and balkan countries, but he overestimate himself. War on two fronts - idiot. From that time, all what he ordered was wrong. He made so much non-strategic decisions.
That's from strategic side of view, and I don't want to write about jews and SS - everybody knows why...
I don't really see what the Soviets saw in revenge, raping and killing Germans wasn't going to bring back their people, it just creates more problems.
To be honest, i'm suprised the British were the least cruel of all the allies even though they were being attacked by V1s and V2s and previously bombed to hell and back. The Americans, oddly enough, killed alot more German prisoners than the British ever did.
As for the invasion of Russia, the German generals and Hitler initially made some good decisions strategically, for example taking sevastopol which in theory would have crippled the black sea fleet abit. But the Germans weren't ready for Stalingrad and Moscow. I don't know much about Leningrad, but they seiged it for almost 4 years with no avail so i'd imagine that wasn't the best decision either.
Did you noticed no army ever got Moscow? Napoleon didn't make it, germans in WW1, even not in WW2... once because of winter, once because of muck...
Hence why i said it was a bad decision.
Wait, What? Germans never attacked Russia in WW1 you Twat. Lack of history much? Russia attacked East Prussia and the Germans defeated Russia in a series of battles known as "Battle of Tannenberg".
