What is Vast?
Vast is a indie game by Scott Bromander (operating under the Docix, LLC.) It is primed to be 'an intensely satisfying, space-trader on steroids'. Largely inspired by games like FTL, Out There, and older games like Stars! and Solar Winds.

What platforms are you targeting?
PC, Mac, and Android. If there is enough interest, iOS versions will be released later.

Who are you?
Scott Bromander, a Veteran Developer/Designer who works for The Nerdery based out of Minneapolis. We work on amazing projects with really great clients. Additionally, I teach for Sanford Brown in their Game Production Program as well as Web Development and Animation. I myself, received my Bachelor of Science in Game Design and Development from Brown College back in 2006. Previously, I was running Warp the Form, a small indie game dev shop out of Minneapolis, MN where we released 12 games over 1-2 years. Ultimately, it was not paying the bills, so I turned to self-educating a whole ton more and starting a family, and finding somewhere kick ass to work. The Nerdery scooped me up, and have been absolutely amazing to me, while also encouraging my side-personal project(s).

When are you going to release Vast?
My target is Q1 of 2015. But more importantly, 'When I have finished the game I set out to create'. With any luck, those two will line up. Working at the Nerdery has made me a pro-estimator and a decent project manager, so I feel like the target date is in line with my ability and the tasks at hand.

How much will it cost and how will I get it?
I do not have an eye on any specific distribution platforms (such as GOG.com or Steam), but I am sure we will cross that bridge as soon as I get closer to 'done'. But it will certainly be available for direct purchase from my site at launch. Android release will obviously be released in the Google Play store.

How can I help?
Share this page! As far as development help goes, I am completely comfortable with developing the game entirely on my own, but if you feel compelled to offer help, feel free to reach out.

Why a Teaser Trailer?
As much as it is to public announce the game, it started as a 'tone treatment' to help me understand what it is I wanted to make. I wanted to understand better what a finished Vast would 'feel like'.

Overview:
Players will assume the role of a captain several hundred years after Earth has been left due to resource exhaustion. In the vein of "Out There" and "FTL", the player will have to utilize their cunning and moxie to navigate the dangerous of space in an effort to help rebuild human society, which now calls their Mothership "The Morning Star" home.

Players can explore systems and points of interest in an effort to secure resources and data to sold to further their endeavors. Along the way they will be met by human created artificial intelligence bent on harvesting humans as resources in the name of self-preservation.

Players can decide the path that most peaks their interest. The Pirating path offers a combat rich experience, while the traditional Trading path will offer a familiar 'Space Trading Game' experience. Finally, the Exploration path offers a unique take on this style of play, offering existing visuals and rewarding interaction 'for just scanning a planet'.

This game is brought to you by Scott Bromander, an Interactive Development veteran of the Nerdery and 4 year professor of Sanford Brown in Game Production. Vast has had many iterations for Scott over the past couple decades and he is excited to finally bring a public version to market. Scott's specialties range from Traditional Game Development, to Motion Graphics, and Visual Design. This game is his first public release of his own, unaltered design, and is combination of decades of learning and building projects for others.

His current development plan is to release for Android first using the Adobe AIR platform, but if interest is there, is certainly open to expanding to iOS, PC, and Mac.
