Development Diary 1
The has really come along this week with changes being made to most areas of the game to improve gameplay and the general user experience. Still to to are the artwork and some slight changes to make the game super hard at higher levels!
I added progressive difficulty this week to make the game more and more challenging the longer that you play it. I did this by simply increasing the force of gravity every 20 seconds. Gravity will increase steadily throughout the game making the ball fall a lot faster as you reach a longer playtime. This means you have to react quicker to obstacles and change your timing so to make sure obstacles remain challenging throughout the whole game!
I added a new obstacle that consists of two blocks that move outwards and rotate, this is a really challenging obstacle as you can see in the gameplay video at the bottom of this article!
Player score has been linked to a variable that is displayed directly on the HUD.
The lose screen has been spaced out a little bit more and the players score is also displayed here.
The light mass importance volumes have been hugely extended to provide good lighting throughout the entire game. This is especially useful when you get to higher levels.
To improve performance all the obstacles spawn randomly on a single block which is generated as the player runs.
Overall the drop has made a huge step towards release this past week, I've tested it on device and it plays great. I've also shown it to a couple of friends who thought it was quite an addictive game! I'll be tweaking the gameplay and massively updating the artwork over the next week so the game should at least look really different next week!
Thanks for reading and untill next week please enjoy this short gameplay video from the latest version of The Drop!
