StarDrive is a 4X Action-Strategy game where the goal is to build a space empire. Starting with a single planet and a small number of space-worthy vessels, you forge out into the galaxy, exploring new worlds, building new colonies, and discovering the StarDrive universe. The heart of StarDrive is its ship design and combat engine. StarDrive takes a module-based approach to ship design, allowing the player to create custom ship designs where the composition and placement of ship modules really matters to the performance of a ship in combat. In combat, if your portside armor is taking a beating, then rotate around and show them the starboard side! Hide behind a friendly capital ship's shields, warp into and out of the fray, launch fighters, lay mines, and so much more.
Extremely interesting ideas brought in this game. Ship design in terms of placements of weapons and power supplies among much else is new to me. Looks great as well, it has a few kinks to work out, but this review is based on an alpha.
Based on the alpha it has alot of potential!
Just played the alpha and holy sheet. I can't wait for this game to get further along in development. I've literally been waiting years for another game like Escape Velocity since tom burch's wife told him she'd divorce him if he made another. And the marriage with a 4X game with that is just my wet dream to be honest.
It has a really promising gameplay, alltough still lacking tutorial due to Alpha.
I think its wrong to give a 10/10 to an alpha but I was tempted.
This is a genre that few developers tackle, and fewer still get right, however zerOsum seems to be on target with some great ideas and gameplay.
Great game, long way to go yet but has a lot of promise
This is still alpha, and so far is amazing. I missed out on the kickstarter, and am glad I could support this game by purchasing it here.
If you bypass all the bugs and incompleteness that comes from it being an alpha, StarDrive itself becomes an amazingly complex games that has huge potential. Its already polished to the point where the price right now would make sense. The concepts are perhaps the best mix that makes this such an amazing game. The concepts of managment of your empire, your ships, your traits, your economy, your battles, and your own ship makes this game more unique than a lot of other 4X games out there. This game has pretty great graphics that pictures can't tell by itself. The mood of the minimal interface and the real time game mechanics really allows you to be drawn into the atmostphere, something that can be hard for most 4X games which rely on turns and maybe when multiplayer is added will create some amazing rush experience of fight vs flight. So far this game is really amazing and the developer seems to be active on forums and listening to the crowd (one of the great boons of a devoted developer). This game has amazing potential and if you planning to buy it/bought it, I doubt you will be disappointed by it's concepts and the game thus far. If your just browsing, give this game a track, its certainly something to be interested in!
Just got the alpha. Buggy as to be expected but oh my does it give something to look forward to. Takes me back to the days of M.O.O. I cant wait till its done
