Dark Forces Laser Blast for Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight
Version 1.0: 2/4/2024

This updates the blaster explosions to have sparks and smoke, just like in Dark Forces. It's amazing how much more powerful it makes blasters feel. This was created from AI upscales of the original Dark Forces blast animations.

Installation Instructions: (Dark Forces Remastered 3.2+):

1. Copy the mods\DFLaserBlastv1.0.gob file into your AppData\Roaming\OpenJKDF2\openjkdf2\mods folder.
   
   For Dark Forces Remastered, you will have to disable some of the built-in JKGM blast animations.
   
   
2. Copy the provided \PROJECTILE19\jknup.bryx.cel0.emissive-DFBLAST.png into your AppData\Roaming\OpenJKDF2\openjkdf2\jkgm\materials\PROJECTILE19\ folder.
3. You will need to modify the AppData\Roaming\OpenJKDF2\openjkdf2\jkgm\materials\PROJECTILE19\metadata.json file. I recommend copying this file into another backup folder just in case it gets botched or you want to undo this mod. A sample pre-modified file is included if you just want to copy it over and don't want to modify the json file.
   
   To modify the file yourself, open the AppData\Roaming\OpenJKDF2\openjkdf2\jkgm\materials\PROJECTILE19\metadata.json file in a text editor, remove all objects that reference mat/bryx.mat, except the first entry for jknup.bryx.cel0.emissive.png, in this one, replace the file reference "jknup.bryx.cel0.emissive.png" with "jknup.bryx.cel0.emissive-DFBLAST.png". Save the file.
   
   
4. That's it, enjoy the glorious blaster animations.

Notes:

1. Yes, this mod is compatible with the base game (non-remastered). In that case just drop the gob file into the program folder and run jk.exe -u "DFLaserBlastv1.0.gob" like any other gob file
2. I made this mods close to twenty years ago, but lost the original version on a bad 3 1/2 floppy disk.
3. I used Topaz Gigapixel AI to upscale the Dark Forces blast frames, along with manual tweaks with Gimp.
4. If I make future improvements, I plan on releasing those as well
