ScrumbleShip is the most accurate space combat simulation devised to date. Gather resources, construct a capital ship out of individual blocks, then pilot it with AI or human help against other players.

Another lovely looking ship, courtesy of Ace9808. Thanks Ace!

I adjusted the "epic" graphics setting, allowing much larger ships to have impressive screenshots taken of them. VERY large ships can also benefit from a lower res rendering method I've bound to F9.

I realized that I was allocating a little too much ram for each initialized chunk... Initial reports are still coming in, but one fellow reported a drop from 850MB ram use to ~75MB.

I'm also working on the lighting system, making it less buggy, less laggy, and more accurate.

Cheers,
-Dirk

I still can't believe the reduction in memory usage. I get ~70mb of RAM or less being used most of the time. Very well done!

That thing looks pretty sturdy, Ace. Another ram in the neighborhood? Not sure this galaxy is big enough for the both of us. Looking forward to a head-on ramming battle when simulation is implemented! :D

I think it looks like the back of the ship, unless Ace put thrusters on the end of the ram. The engine trail would be useful as a weapon, but I don't think any of the engines would survive an actual ramming.

I also love the way Ace puts engines on his ships. I have already started refering to the engines as "Ace Engines" :D

That's what I though about that front engine cluster (or "Ace cluster"), but he did say in the ScrumbleShip site that the ship is "designed to ram it's opposition straight on with a granite battering ram." That part I thought was the front is made of granite. You're right, I don't think the front Ace cluster would survive impact, but it will help him maneuver the ship up until impact. After that point, the fight is going to be a close quarters slugging match anyway, so I doubt he'll be needing those engines.

Another benefit of the "Ace engine" cluster is that the rockets can freely radiate heat from their sides into space, rather than into their hull housing (though a good rocket will disperse most of its heat out the nozzle). The downside is that they are more exposed and more likely to be damaged. It's a tradeoff, and would be ideal where heat is a concern and combat isn't - say, for a transport or mining vessel.

Yeah they probably wont survive the first attack, but she'll maneuver like a dream all the way to impact. However, adding a tail would be pretty cool! "Ace engine" (thanks for that) on the front and back, and then you can do the whirling top of death into your opponent. I will call it the "Bayblade"

You're going to want to invest in something called "crash couches." In a *big* way.

I have to say, I love the Ace Engines, the way they radiate heat and are omnidirectional is just awesome. I have built similar non-shielded thrusters on my civilian ships but they all pale when compared to Ace's.

Also, is that chromium plating above the ram? I like to use it as well.
