"The night is still young"
The night is coldest before dawn. At this distance the rain overpowers the relentless sound of gunfire, though the rumbling is man-made thunder. I have slept little. Sometime during the night my tarp ripped, soaking my cot. I've given up resting more. On the horizon I see color - the first sign of dawn - but I know the warmth of the sun is still a long way off. Damn this planet's slow rotation. I re-position the uncomfortable canvas chair and watch the horizon brighten, and then become darker. The solar storms will be powerful today.
