Realm Explorer will be a computer game about creation in the fantasy universe of Gnostaria; your creations. In perhaps the most dynamic sandbox world yet to be conceived you will be able to dig the soil and mine ore, precious metals and gems all in a beautiful and dynamic 3D world. The terrain will shape and form to your actions. Drive a shovel into the ground and watch the earth give way. Heave your pickaxe into a cave wall and see the stone disintegrate before you; revealing the treasure beneath. Go on adventures alone or with friends via internet multiplayer and craft weapons, armor, tools and other items. How you play is up to you. The possibilities are limitless.

In this article, Gabriel showcases some screenshots of character customization as it currently appears in the game and discusses his latest work.

I talked about some of the things I was working on back on July 24th here.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Currently I am working on updating the main menu, and character creation. Soon thereafter I will work on the new in-game UI.

I wrapped up the main menu functionality last week and started doing character customization this week. Zeruel just wrapped up the character customization backend required by this UI, so once this whole thing is finished you'll be able to specify various styles to apply to your character and see them in game.

Something exciting about the new main menu is that it is written using HTML/CSS/JS which will allow for trivial skinning of the main menu/character customization and the in game UI as well by game modders.

Dyox is making some good progress on the game engine, you can see his screenshots here: Realmexplorer.com!

Recently I also added a button to the Realm configuration tabs in the server which will open a new Windows Explorer window to where the currently selected realm is located for easy file system access to the realm

I also updated the logo for the game and realmsource (yet undisclosed) in the introduction videos for the game.

I also added a /position command which tells you your xyz coordinates in the game world.

I am also as always administrating the website, facebook, twitter, our support e-mail inbox, and other features/bug-fixes in out backend services. Approving posts, replying to comments, or assisting users in any difficulties they are having.

I am hoping I can finish up character customization this week and move onto the in-game UI to update the inventory window as well as the crafting window and chat. Please bear in mind I am a programmer and not a designer though -- it will be functional by not necessarily pretty.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

You've probably seen the new screenshots of the UI over at Slaine's thread here (I need to fix that link color!)

As you can see, character customization is pretty much complete.

Other recent progress:

  1. Fixed a bug with Max Characters per account setting
  2. Fixed a bug with the random seed button in the Server UI
  3. Made the single player character have admin priviledges
  4. Created keybinding UI
  5. Created Mouse Settings UI (invert y!)
  6. Created video resolution/quality settings UI
  7. Now persisting client credentials (encrypted), video, audio, and input settings
  8. Server list now Sortable by any column
  9. Many other small tweaks/fixes to the new UI

What's next?

  1. Creating Server UI to handle "color lists" for use in the character customization UI
  2. Creating an editor for biome definitions in the Server UI (low priority)
  3. Adding some audio options to the options menu (volume slider anyone?)
  4. Getting all the User Input keys bindable
  5. Creating new inventory/crafting ui
