Project Zomboid is an open-ended zombie-infested sandbox. It asks one simple question – how will you die? Whether surviving in Knox County free-roam or controlling Indie Stone mascot Baldspot in his quest to save his injured wife Kate – death is always a certainty. Quite how long you manage to put it off is another matter…

If you have issues running the game after updating, it may be due to using an old version of Desura and something involving cache files I don't fully understand.

Anyway, a complete uninstall and reinstall will fix it. And it will not be an issue in any future build. I guess Desura client wasn't quite expecting 18 months of fundamental changes delivered in a single update when it tried to patch it! and who can blame it!

quick remark on that; I don't know if it is my fault or not but my Desura tried to find a ProjectZomboid.sh while there was only a projectzomboid.sh startup script available (using linux and case sensitive filesystem)
I did fully uninstall and install several times.

I'm still having the same error after uninstalling..

I've uninstalled the game, and then did a 'force update' of desura, then reinstalled the game. I'm still getting the same error.

"Failed to launch item.

Failed to launch item Project Zomboid, File is not valid exe [C:\Program Files (x86)\Desura\Common\Project Zomboid\ProjectZomboid32.exe]. [61.0]"

You uninstalled Desura, too, right?
Uninstall Desura, then reinstall it.

Also, check the path manually if the exe is really there.

You don't seem to have the correct version of Java installed OR you're not running the right version of it.

Q. I see a dark flash, maybe some text, and nothing happens!
A. Most of the time, this is the “The system cannot find the path specified” error, which means your Java installation cannot be located.

Q. "The system cannot find the path specified" is displayed when I try to run the game.
A. Make sure you have the right Java version installed for your system. If you’re running a 32 Bit OS you need to download the 32 Bit version of Java.
On a 64 Bit OS, you can have both 32 and 64 Bit Java installed, however you need to make sure to run the correct version.

If you’re using the Desura client, right click the game and select either “Play 32x” or “Play 64x”, depending what kind of OS you’re using and which Java version you installed.Otherwise, you need to run the corresponding exe-file which is either “ProjectZomboid32” or “ProjectZomboid64”

Q. I don’t have Java installed! / Where can I get Java?
A. If you’re playing PZ through the Desura client, Desura downloads and installs Java for you. To do this
1) right-click “Project Zomboid Alpha” in Desura
2) click “Verify”
3) check “Re-Install tools”
4) hit the “Verify” buttonYou can also download Java via the following site:http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

Quit deleting people's posts. It won't help the fact that this game is hell to install.

It's not a Java issue.. it's a YOU issue.

Not sure what you're refering to.
The game requires Java. If Java isn't installed or not installed correctly, the game will not work. That's an issue on the user-end.

Anyone with problems downloading the game, please contact Desura Support about this. They are the only ones able to resolve this. Neither the devs nor a normal forum is likely to be able to help you with this.

I'm not getting any type of thing that pops up, it downloads, says it's ready, and then when I choose the version, it opens for a split second then closes itself for any version I click. Help?

Download and install Java 32 and 64 Bit.
