You will take command of a ship and its crew, swordfight with other captains, accept and complete daring quests, chase rumors of dangers and riches, and change allegiances amongst the colonial powers in the game. Through skill and daring, you will have the ability to obtain more power than the toughest captains in history ever dreamed possible. You will be able to customize your captain, crew, skills, and attributes to their individual liking. During shore leave on the many fanciful islands, players can interact with townspeople and shopkeepers to replenish stores of ammo and crew, and explore the wilderness in search of adventure and treasure!

This is a complete redo of the original mapships mod (also available) and hopefully solves all issues with the original version, as well as all critique people have had on that version. This mod was made by Pieter Boelen With thanks to Couchcaptain Charles, Petros, Rafe Bligh, Thomas the Terror, Seb and Merciless Mark Installation Instructions: 1) Extract the file on top of your installation 2) Start the game Note: No prerequisite mods required This mod is already included in Build 13 Update 3, Build 13 Final and Build 14 Alpha 6

I installed this mod and then played the game, as for realism they are great but theres no flags on the map ships so you dont know what country they are, the pirates are black ships though so you'll be able to tell them.
