It would be able to, I'm guessing they are made using a standard 3D model printer in which case they would print exactly what you want it to, in this case it looks like they just printed that to show what it can do. Cave systems in a block would be a bit pointless unless they were made specifically to make it look good when made like that.

They used a standart 3D printer, which prints 3D models (duh)... And most likely they converted Minecraft world to 3D model format using this or something similar : Moddb.com
