Journey into the gritty and not particularly pleasant world of Max Payne. This third person action game features a strong storyline and an altogether interesting antihero. Max Payne is a gritty journey to the present day New York City during the worst winter blizzard in a century. The thriller pulp story keeps the players guessing right on till the end. The game shoots from the lowest slum pits to the greatest skyscraper heights, leaving behind a trail of corpses, splatters of blood, and empty brass rolling on the floor.

Loose translation:
"Well, when now?
Despite multiple announcements the action title Max Payne is a long time coming.
But what takes a long time surely will be really good, like the first pictures and facts are showing.
Protagonist of the game is Max Payne, a young cop from New York, who lives a regular/quiet life with his small family, but when he returns home one day he finds his wife and daughter shot.
From this point on his life changes radically: he quits the force, becomes an undercover agent and hunts drug lords and the murderers of his family. But with that he creates himself many enemies and eventually becomes the hunted after the death of a colleague.
In a total of 30 levels you should be prepared for anything.
In a story full of surprises you go through a highly detailed landscape, which is created with the MaxFX engine that was created for this game.
Always in the third person you can shoot anything that crosses your path.
And with that we don't mean only sinister fellas, even walls and objects can be visibly destroyed.
The arsenal of weapons leaves nothing to be desired.
On the press of a button a slow motion sequence chases the trajectory of your fired projectiles.
In these seconds you can assess the situation and react faster than your enemies.
In a Max Payne you're completely left on your own, in the story as in the game itself.
There is no multiplayer.
Well, there won't be any snow on the trees when the game releases but until the golden autumn you'll have to wait in pleasant anticipation."

My english isn't as good as it used to be and the text was not written very well in German as well, rather cringy to be frank, but especially in the early times of German game journalism they came from the oldschool of journalism and tried to garnish every sentence in a script with phrases and figures of speech.
